Omar-S Interview on Resident Advisor
Oh my God--I think I just read the best DJ interview of my life...

"I don't even know who Ricardo Willalobo is. I ain't start hearing his name till like a year ago. Who the fuck is that?"
What a knob jockey. Needs to move over into rap rather than techno.

I appreciate his no-bullshit attitude.
That it's taken him this long to get recognition is criminal tho..
edit: love his interview for ISM too..

... 006 was a DJ tool. What people dont understand, alot of the shit I do is DJ tools. You get some of those stupid ass mother******s probably from the suburbs or some shit like that who dont even know what the fuck hes talking about, been listening to dance music for like 6 months and shit, aint been listening to since back in the 80s like me, know what Im saying. You know how those mother******s is. Alot of tracks back in the 80s, like the shit Im listening to now (turns up car stereo bumping tracky drum machine track), you had to make shit out of it, you could ride shit, you could have one record ridin for like 5 minutes and people wont even fucking know it. Like Oasis 14 is really a DJ tool. But you know what Im sayin, you got people like Is that all the record do?. Yeah bitch, thats all the record do. Yep your lazy ass needs to do some other shit with it. ...
Hahah funny as hell, this was the best:

FXHE was the launching pad for numerous producers like Jus-Ed, Seth Troxler and Kyle Hall. Are you planning on putting out more unknown artists? A lot of people are fucking babies and shit. They want you to keep putting shit out on your label. Basically what FXHE Records was designed to do for other artists was for the artist to do a record or two on the label and then go off and do his own thing. I might release some stuff from Jason Fine and Big Strick and one other person and that's it, I won't fuck with anyone else. I'm not putting out music that you put on someone else's label that sounds the same. You do shit on FXHE or you do shit on your own label. Fuck that, I'm not fucking with you if you're fucking with other people. Jus-Ed is the only one who really took advantage of that. Jus-Ed did his first song on FXHE Records, he got a name for himself, now he's doing his own thing BIG. I'm really proud of him. Kyle Hall is doing the same as well! Now he's breaking other artists himself. Exactly. That's what the fuck people are supposed to do. But you know, people aren't from the old school. They don't want money, they don't want to put out good music. They want to do that shit half-ass, know what I'm saying? They don't have no hustle in them, that's what it's all about. They just don't want it, so I don't think about it no more.
"day" is one of my fav tracks right now.
great interview lol
Haha, nice.
He's one of those people that seem cool when you see them on TV, or read about them on internet (or in papers), however if you knew (met) him in real life, you'd probably think "What an asshole!". BTW I agree with him on Ricardo...
What interests me more is his music. I think I've heard just 3 records by him, Psychotic Photosynthesis, The Further You Look - The Less You Will See (my fav) and Oasis' latest effort and I have to say that he's absolutely brilliant. One of the few dance artists these days who are doing something on their own, without blindly following the trends, and succeeding. Of course he's not completely original, but he's doing that Detroit thing in a surprisingly fresh and exciting way.

How has your DJing been going? It's been going really good. The main places I like going back to are Sub Club, and Fabric of course. I haven't been to Panoramabar in a few years, I need to go back there. Those three places are professional: No problem with the equipment, no problem with the turntables, no problem with the engineers, none of that shit.
haha i think ricardo and omar would actually befriend when they ever meet
I'm looking forward to listen his mix because I love his music a lot. However, I don't like his attitude...I bet he knows who Ricardo is
edm gets its first true gangster, its about fucking time. love him or leave him alone people.

Originally posted by chesco That is a quality mix. Also worth checking the fya mix he done. Just out of interest, what is the vocal track at 8 minutes in the mix you posted. It's well know but it's doing my nut in that I can't remember the name of it.

How did your new 12-inch on Sound Signature come about? I played Theo some tracks, months back. He didn't say nothing so I was like, "OK." I played it to him again later; he started going crazy and shit, started whipping around the room like he's drunk, making fucked-up faces and pointing sayin', "I want that one, that one, that one! I want that one!" |
Chris, you have no idea how fucking excited I am to see Omar S. I can't wait!

I listened to his new Fabric mix today...not bad. In the notes he claims that he can't stand sitting in the studio for "30 minutes, two days...all my tracks are made in minutes".
Is he saying that all his tracks are made in under 30 minutes? I don't think so, but if he is, that's a pretty incredible claim.
He also mentions that they sound a lot better loud (true), because he makes them "really, really, really loud"; apparently all the speakers in his studio are blown and he uses headphones to make everything.
what i reckon he does is spend no more than a few minutes working on a track at any one time, but total time per track is more than that.
His Fya mixes are indeed just that...Fya!
Would anyone be able to ID the following tracks from a couple of the mixes:
ID 1 (The vocal track, not the Dick & Balls one)
ID 2
Any help much appreciated.
