King Evirdy - Walking on Shadows [old/new/prog-/psy ish/trance]

(69.44min | 95.77mb | 192kbit)

Hola! This is my first mix I'm sharing here. When I first joined TA, I mainly listened to epic uplifting trance. Over the years, I've come to enjoy the darker sound more, like from Platipus. For this mix, I used most tracks from years ago, except Hesitated and the Snappiness remix which are from more recent. I haven't been mixing very long, so don't expect flawless transitions, I just hope you'll like the tracks I picked

01. Paul van Dyk - Seven Ways (Star Ways) [MFS]
02. POB - Today [Platipus]
03. POB - Turkish Bizarre [Platipus]
04. Elias - Retribution [Platoon Recordings]
05. Max Graham - Falling Together [Hope Recordings]
06. Oliver Prime - Hesitated [Oxygen Recordings]
07. Beetseekers - Snappiness (Oliver Prime remix) [Joof Recordings]
08. Quietman - Now & Zen (Earth Nation remix) [Platipus]
09. Space Manoeuvres - Stage One (Orkidea mix) [Tirade Records]
10. Art of Trance - Octopus (Man With No Name mix) [Platipus]
11. Cosmic Baby - Cosmic Force [MFS]

I appreciate (honest) feedback so I'd love to hear what you thought of it. Enjoy!

Thanks for downloading, guys. I look forward to hear what you thought of it

@ Sandsider, I had good comments about the variety from another listener. When I'm looking for good music, I just try to find some "tranciness" in it, and sometimes I end up finding that in progressive house or goa or something else. When I was compiling the tracks, I wanted it to result in a cohesive mix, so I'm just happy to hear that it worked for you Thanks for listening and leaving your feedback!

Nice, this is a feel god set, with a very good and consistent tracklist, very fluid. Me likes.

Not to kiss ass, often there's a lot of hate and drama going on at TA towards those that are a bit more skeptical about today's trance, but it should also be said that some like me learned a lot from you & other TAs, so it's great to hear that you like it

montony, thanks for the detailed feedback earlier on, there's a lot of room for improvement, so it will definately come in useful for the next mix in the future

Good to hear you like it

I figured that I owe you some feedback on this.

Good tunes for the most part, if somewhat familiar. I just don't rate Oliver Prime that highly as a producer (his sets are far more interesting to my ears). That first POB-tune is gorgeous. It's also so good to hear my kind of flavor represented again in the oodles of fluff this genre is plagued by. Remind me to bring some tunes next time I swing by Amsterdam (which happens ever so often).

The mixing, however, lets this set down. Not because of the beatmatching or the transitions themselves (I only clocked one mistake that really stood out, and I actually liked some of those short fade-mixes you made), but because of the constant breakdowns, which ruin all the momentum and ultimately turn the set into a frustrating start-stop affair.

My advice is to do more digging for material that fleshes out your set more. That way, you can place tunes like Falling Together more carefully and achieve a much greater impact from them. The remaining mixing issues will be fixed by themselves once you get more practice.

Keep at it!

Thanks for your detailed comments, much appreciated.

I also like that POB tune, I really like vocals done like this. What can I say about Oliver Prime? I like the two productions from him that I selected and I think it fits the atmosphere of the set, but he has started to serve us the same Prime sauce multiple times and it's getting a bit boring now.

I partly agree with the criticism about the tracks I picked and the way I've compiled them. Perhaps a bit too many tunes in 70 minutes without other more subtle 'flow' tracks. I have to say that the breakdowns don't really bother me anywhere near that extent, as I don't really have problems with it as long as the melodramatic part is left out. But yeah, I get your point.

Digging is fun. Time & money consuming, but still fun. Practising, that's not much fun

Still good this

Like those POB tracks, must get those. And a lovely bit of MWNN too.

Make more sets

Call your next mix "The Shadows want revenge"

Will check this out.

Hmm.. Actually, this looks so tasty (judging by the few tracks I recognize) that I'll save this for Saturday night.

Will let you know how it goes down.
