Question Cellphone Etiquette (cont'd)

Can we now assume that everyone turns their phones off while sleeping (or not wanting to be disturbed)??

(especially in regards to txt msgs)

lol sorry, that's what I meant... "silent"

lately I've been using txt msgs like emails and sending them throughout the night lol

I keep my phone on - for alarm and incase of an emergency (since its the only way to get ahold of me)

If I recieve and text or call between 1am-7am on a weekday... it better be an emergeny

Otherwise I dont care... if one wakes me up I tend to fall asleep quickly after.

What's asleep's phone number?

What's wrong with keeping it on?

My alarm goes off in the morning and I usually sleep through it, my brother on the other hands yells at me to turn it off. I can only think of that reason.

The only time I ever turn my phone off is after a long night of partying and I want to sleep in that day.

I use my cell phone as my alarm clock.. so it is on Sun-Thurs night.

I have no issue with texts through out the night though... most late night messages make me laugh and are worth waking up for..

+1

However in the past month i have been woken up once and a while by drunken phone calls from montreal between 2am and 5am ... however they are semi - welcome becasue i miss these two people.

well see, you sent me a txt @ 9am on like Monday lol And normally I don't wake up past 10am, so you would have woken me up!

PEOPLE - turn your phones off when you go sleepies lol

If you have a blackberry, you can turn you're phone off, and have it automatically turn on right when the alarm is going off.

I just created profile for when I'm sleeping. Everything is on silent, except for certain phone numbers where it'll vibrate.

Posted by mute79 on Feb-26-2009 16:14:

i leave mine on since i use it as an alarm clock.. though getting a late night txt doesn't wake me up, hah

shhhh it was 9:30... and I know theres nothing you love more than waking up to me

Jon Jon why dont you text messages in the middle of the night.. now i feel left out.

But in all seriousness I think that texting someone at 3am on a weekday is unnecessary - thats what emails are for.

well I think my point is that everyone has a different time schedule, and if everyone just put their phones on silent there wouldn't be any problems

I guess... I guess its just society norms that I tend to follow and I try to do all my calling and messaging during the times that I know the 'average person' would be awake. I know that almost everyone I know treats their cell phone as an extension of themself - and never turns it off.

Agreed, but I am a little bias.

I leave my phone on, never know when an emergency will happen.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Feb-26-2009 16:58:

My cell phone stays in my car...unless I am expecting a call.

The way I see it....if I'm at home (call me at home), if I'm at work (call me at work), if you can't reach me at those numbers try my cell phone.....if I don't answer it means I'm busy doing something or I don't want to talk to you.

agreed. between bartending, night classes, and partying, my schedule was off, but mainly i sleep until early afternoon. phone calls from people thinking that once 10am hits, its fine to call, has made me turn my phone to silent 24/7. now i don't answer any calls.

Posted by FunkyCrew on Feb-26-2009 17:17:

on silent at night and between 11-7
lol
if I don't put it on silent at work, I think the office next door hears my "Voodoo people"

Yep. Mute your phones! I do on mine if I am having a nap or passing out but the alarm on that is very useful.

I thought you meant etiquette in terms of using it while out with friends, picking it up while in mid convo etc, which I'll admit I've done myself but hate it.

Posted by E2EK1EL on Feb-26-2009 17:40:

When i sleep ... all data, sms & calls are blocked (execpt family members)

As soon as i pick up the phone from the table, all settings are back to normal (after the given "set" time)

Posted by VERTiG0 on Feb-26-2009 21:33:

I keep mine on all the time because I'm a goddamn communication junkie.

That sounds nerdy as hell, heh.
