King wanting to get an album signed (uplifting trance, chillout, some breaks)

hi everyone.

this is my first post on TA in over 18 months, so it may seem a bit rich coming straight back in asking for advice, but i figured it worth a try.

last year i made an artist album. the label i originally wanted to get it signed to (MPFS records) has now pretty much ceased operation.. and now i'm in a position where i just want to get it out there and as accessible as possible, preferably on a label so it can get promoted & distributed properly.

however i have nigh-on-zero knowledge when it comes to current trance labels. i don't really know who does this kind of style or who even releases albums these days, save for the bigger names (eg. armada, black hole, anjuna, discover etc) who i'd rather not waste my time with. so if anyone has any suggestions or indeed knows someone personally who might take this on, i'm all ears

it's 11 tracks; i've created a 17:36 long preview featuring clips of each of them, which can be listened to here:

http://isoterra.co.uk/tunes/ljj/ljj_prev.mp3

stylewise it plays off a number of inspirations i've had over the years, from chicane, old tiesto stuff, nu-nrg, push, that kind of thing. it's kind of dated i guess; wanted to stay true to my roots rather than aim it at the present day club market (which will prove its ultimate downfall no doubt...)

to be honest i'm not really interested in modifying any of the tracks at this stage since it's been in a finished state for ~4 months now - and i can't see myself continuing with trance much in the future - but comments appreciated all the same

I'm currently using TuneCore to promote my album, bypassing labels altogether. Time will tell how successful that venture is, but it only cost close to $60 and it got distributed to every outlet I wanted it on, in short time. It's even on iTunes and Napster Japan.

hm interesting. that's roughly $60 more than i spare right now but i'll definitely keep it in mind if the label route doesn't offer any light and i can save up some cash. how often do you see returns from it, 6-monthly or something?

It's 70 days old but I released it without a great deal of fanfare. Tunecore says if the album sells or gets played, it should be between 60 and 90 days to start seeing postings of cash. Right now, I'm still at 0.00.

Unfortunately, while I'd suggest the solarSwarm (not that I'm bias or anything), we aren't in a position to be signing any albums right now. Selling an album is pretty hard to most labels, especially when you haven't been represented on that label before.

Both labels I work under ('sm[th] Music and solarSwarm Recordings) are still focused on singles right now. If you wanted to push a single to either label in hopes of helping the album get recognition, let me know. I'm not making promises of course, but the album doesn't sound bad at all to me in the preview. I just think the market for an album on a label you haven't been seen on isn't going to happen anywhere unless you have a big name helping pull you in to some big label that can take the risk.

My mate has just set up a label with some really top quality stuff being signed.

He's after new talent and I know you from some of your Terrafusion work.

I've directed him to this thread, maybe you two could have a chat and work something out?

Loved your old stuff.

That third track in your preview sounds very similar to ultramarine.

I have to say ultramarine is a very special track to me. Wish you'd give it the treatment you've given this tune, because my god it would be perfect.

Anyway, best of luck.

I think this would be the best way to go, quite a few of those tracks sound strong enough to stand on their own as singles so you should definitely try. It does seem to be that most labels are releasing singles or small EP's - the only albums come from long-established artists. I do notice a strong Push influence in those standouts so try Bonzai or Club Elite? Also search "Olympik" in the Production Studio forum and you should see their thread requesting demos from TA's, they appreciate a wide variety of styles which I'm thinking would definitely suit your needs as I listen to your montage of tracks, lol.

Good to see you alive again man, it's been a while! Sorry to hear that the mpfs label is going under but your music is sounding great so all the best with it.

cool, thanks for the advice/offer. all tunes were made for the album so it seems a bit wrong splitting them up but i'd consider it if there was interest.

this is incredible work, composition and mixing wise. hope you get on a label that will give you the recognition you deserve.

yeah i've had a couple of bits & pieces out with mpfs so they would have been ideal but i don't think any of them really have the time/money/effort these days, not to mention interest in the scene. thanks for the comments though, will try olympik & bonzai

Why are you giving up? This is superb stuff and you obviously have a major talent for composiotion and production.

thanks.. but just gone as far as i can with it really. i'm really happy with how this turned out but it feels like it's the end of a chapter which i need to move on from. if i do continue with any trance in the future it will be a different, deeper/darker kind (possibly spurred on by having a track coming out on j00f recordings next month ) but i also want to try out more breaks/downtempo/soundtrack type stuff at some point as well. not been happy for a while about being just a guy who makes trance

that said i've been known to go back on my word
