Arrow [FULL 320] Halifax - Reveal Your Innocence (Immersiv Tech Mix)

So that Captured remix contest is over and I haven't heard the winning mix yet but I do know that it wasn't me! So here's my submission for download, would love to hear what you guys make of my first serious effort at a tech trancer. I have a lot to learn about creating that strong bass groove which really drives tech trance along (any tips much appreciated) but I enjoyed making this and it was refreshing to work with such different percussive and synth elements to my usuals. I left headroom so turn it up, thanks in advance

Yeah the Dreas mix was so great back in the day that I decided it was pointless trying an uplifting trance mix haha.

Clean production mate. Your bass reminds me heavily of a track by Sleepfreaks called PHB (Directors Cut Mix) especially in the intro, check out a sample on track it down or something.

Good work on vocals, how do you get vocals to sit right in a track? Never even experimented with using vox ever. Really should.

I'd play this out. It's warm and deep, but it's not cheesy either, you've got good balance. The bass is really fantastic.

This is one of the best tunes I've heard from you.

I'm enjoying some of the synthwork in this one. The vocal chops are nice and the little FX sitting in the background, too. However, I felt that the pads were a bit weak.

I'm listening on headphones, but I've noticed that this track sounds very clear on them compared to most tracks. I think that some volume levels could be adjusted, though. For instance, when the bass arrives, the perc hits feel very prominent for a while until more percs come in.

Well done, man.

this is some of your cleanest work man, you're certainly getting better, the vocals pop very nicely. keep up the good work.

Welcome back man with big but sweet track. Great vocal, clean production and fantastic bass line - well done my friend.

Cheers.

Wow thanks guys, didn't expect a whole lot of positivity on this as it didn't even make top 10 for the contest, haha. I'm sure they wanted something that sounded more like the original though and mine goes in a completely different direction, so much so that I might just adapt it into an original track - will regrettably have to remove the choppy vocals though so as not to breach copyright I dunno, if I replaced the vocals with something equally catchy do we think it could stand alone as its own track? Owen I agree the main sidechained pad is definitely lame, I've made a much thicker pad since then and I wish I'd been able to slot it in here!

Will edit the original post with a soundcloud download link too for when the sendspace dies. Thanks again

Definitely a great effort, Scott, the only thing I can nitpick about are the vocal's rhythm getting kind of in the way of the main synth at 4:11, I would have dropped the vocal slices for those few measures and brought them back at the drop, but that's just me.

The break was incredible, so is the bassline. Love it.

Cheers Cody, glad you liked it! In hindsight I agree with you about 4:11, the listener could do with a break from the vocal chops there, would have been more effective bringing them back in at the drop ah well! I'm glad people liked the bass, I was worried it was a bit of a mess.

this is fucking awesome mate, good job

Nice. Like Keysora said, the break is lovely. I would have ridden that vocal into the relaunch (like a five-dollar plug mule), but that might have wrecked the tune. Really nice percussion sound - like you customized it to the mix.

Overall, good job.
