Thumbs up Komplete Kontrol Keyboards

Looks like Native Instruments are releasing keyboard controllers for Komplete! Kontrol S61, S49 & S25. Teaser video

Found that info at gearslutz.

Id like a non keyboard version of Kontrol. Unless they managed to make the best keyboard ever of course. Otherwise I don't see much of a point for anyone who also used things besides Komplete.

I'm going to go and try one of these out, purely because they have Fatar keybeds. The LightGuide feature looks awesome too. That would be very handy when using sampled sounds with key switches, but I doubt they've actually integrated it to that level.

might just be me, but it looks a little bit cheap & nasty.

In some of the product vids I've seen so far, it actually looks pretty solid, but it's hard to tell. It's got a Fatar keybed in it, so that's clearly quality, but so do the Novation SLs and everything about them except for the keybed is flimsy plastic crap. I've been wanting a new portable controller for my laptop and I've got big hopes for the 25-key, but I'll reserve judgment on the NIs until I can play one for myself.

Fater keyboards or not, NI stuff is usually pretty decent quality. These are however masively overpriced for a midi controller with idiot lights on it. And let's not forget Kore like NI did...

NI just announced the Maschine 2.2 update (due in November) and it will integrate with the new keyboards and browser.

Would you really want to base a studio around stuff from a company like NI and their history of dumping stuff they don't fancy supporting any more?

Do I sense some bitterness leftover from KORE

Posted by cryophonik on Sep-04-2014 23:22:

I had Kore2 when NI discontinued it and TBH the only thing that bothered me was that the resale value went down the sh!tter. I never was really sold on the Kore paradigm, so I sold it off a short while after NI dumped it. That didn't stop me from buying Maschine and it wouldn't stop me from buying one of these keyboards. That's not to say that I'm going to buy one, of course. They seem to be way overpriced IMO but I haven't even laid hands on one yet, so I'm just going to keep an open mind about it for now. Besides, I won't be surprised if NI takes a similar route with these controllers as they did with Maschine - offer this basic model now and come out with a full-blown "Studio" version with knobbage and screenage galore, third-party plugin support, etc. in a year or two (at 3X the price, of course).

Light Guide is amazing. Works exactly how I would hope. Wonder how it will go with 3rd party libraries (eg. OTS).

Not a fan of the touch controls for pitch/mod. Roland has made me a joystick convert, but I could have gone back to wheels if I have to. Touch controls just seems too cray cray for me.

My main interest is the key bed though. Literally every MIDI keyboard on the market at the moment sucks. Novation Impulse and SL have nice keys, but it's completely wasted due to the poor velocity curves. This could be the one I've been waiting for!

The keyboards look like they have some nice features, but I too harbor a lot of resentment of what happened w/Kore. So I'm not crazy about the idea of put up money to buy things from them, so they can bust another Apple on me and make my shit obsolete so they can get more money from me by trying to force me to upgrade/crossgrade/migrate to another product that they will probably discontinue sooner rather than later. Any hoo, I'm more than happy w/my CNTRLR. So I'm covered.

Not personally as I never bought one, but the language over at KVR at the time

Will. They. Have...

Polyphonic Aftertouch?

???

That feature alone would sell them to non-Komplete users.

No, non polyphonic aftertouch was confirmed on KVR by ED.
