Another amazing set from him, much more prog, more twisted and dreamy tracks, still dark and sinister at times and other times just flat out smooth deep tech. Great pacing, this set was more of a journey than last year's relentless attack i thought. Place was jammed, he played from about 5-1245. Man is incredible.

great seeing Oki and Oldskool

((((Digweed)))), WOW!
I love you stereo for just allowing DJ's to express themselves to us. Last night was another one of those trips I made that was worth every penny, maybe 5 or 6, but worth it every time. Everything Spin said was on target, but I mind the last two three hours, was just incredible. The progs were sooooo beautiful. It seem that all my prog heroes tend to just get better with age, and this was just another example. The whole set was like a dreamy set which of like Cattaneo, but more underground in the melodic part. To hear gridlock, made me think of one of my favourite remix by saiz and only to came this conclusion for stereo to showcase jimmy sometime in the near future. One personal request I have is that I hope this was recorded for his Live Series, so that I can relive that moment again and again. Thank you John and Thank you Stereo for the wonderful night, morning and afternoon us trio had as we partied at St Laurent for a few hours being sharked at , to the trip at |||stereobar||| to catch a bit of Henry Saiz, than the walk up to the stair to hear tone warm us up perfectly for what would be one of the best journey I have ever got to witness what I love most, groove and melodic, and again to |||ostrich||| again showing why you are one of my fav local dj from mtl, LOVE YOU MTL.

Can anyone give any IDs, at all?

Just on the off-chance that they might include some of the blissful dreamy stuff he was playing within the last few hours.

Unbelievable stuff!!

Posted by Millonario on Oct-17-2014 00:48:

I'm gonna echo Col's question about the track IDing. The only track I remembered, by name, is Are you Hungry? Kosheen minus the vocals. Surprised he did not play tunes from his most recognized compilations, something that Danny Tenaglia usually does.

The event in question. Got there around 2 and there was a small lineup. Got in once they rolled open the doors and think that got in time to the first/second track that the opener was playing. Tone Depth. First time listening and oh boy. This was really one of the highlights for me. Started mellow and slow and continued to build up his set through vocals. Towards the middle of the set, the drums started to bounce off the speakers. Started going mental at that point. It is believed in circles that if the opener does a good job, then the peak set DJ will follow suit. I counted on that. And that's what the crowd was in for. Tone Depth dropped the last couple tunes of his set to serve Digweed the crowd right where he could start from. Digweed came on around 4 45 and started in parsimony. Played a couple of classics (which again I'm unable to identify) but were all the same recognizable by the mlodies embedded upon them. Digweed was testing the crowd, not really going too hard. Building up his set, he played some of that newer, techier, and grittier stuff. Around 8am the basslines started to roll in and the melodies to flounder throughout the place. This was Digweed letting the crowd know that he would play it loud. And that's how he went, dark, spacey, sultry, and chuggy. For the next three hours or so he played something that other forum members have called unbelievable. That's what it was. Digweed at his finest. The technique was above par, mind-blowing. In one word, stellar. The last 1.5 - 2 hours he came back to the techy stuff. Enjoyable, more pleasure-to-the-ears kinda tunes. The show came to a halt at 1pm when there were at least 100 people still wanting more. 'One more track, one more track', the crowd chanted. Digweed did not agree but that did not stop the crowd from giving him a big round of applause for the set he had just played. It could not do less. There was no turkey but there was substance. This is a purveyour of Progressive House and that set was a testament to that.
John Digweed played what prog. was, is, and will be. The lesson will remain there. In days when progressive has become such a distorted word, it is all the more important for the still-standing, diehard exponents and connoisseurs to pass the message on. The movement is all alive and well and fame is not in our name.

I'm still in awe of this extended set from the progressive god at the Temple. A true voyage. The first few hours I felt were linear, but his buildup was impeccable and he went from trancy-ish sounds to trippy, filthy pounding tech. No one wanted to leave. We got a one-track encore. Shook the legend's hand to thank him. Digweed is such a humble gentleman. He came down to Stereobar after to chill.

I vividly recall :

Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (James Holden remix)

Trentmoller - Moan (seems like it may be a white label or Diggers re-edit)

Indeed, was super to have you there Spin & Oki Dokie !

wow thanks for the awesome reviews guys. I really hope he comes back often and not just once a year. I've missed him both times at Stereo but the next one I will not miss.

Posted by Col on Oct-20-2014 02:19:

OK well, I just found arguably the main tune I was looking to find...totally by chance!

Digweed played this around 11am, during his spell of dreamy, melodic stuff - not sure if it was a remix, it certainly sounded bigger in the club, but I think this is the one:

I'm leaning way more towards Diggers having dropped Phonique Scoupe Remix....it is a very recent release as well.....thx for the links!

Col, maybe it was not by chance alone. Think your background, it seems, helped you a bit on this one. Spot on. Good on pointing that one out. Nice to know you are loving it right now in MTL. tantt.

I certainly agree with the reviews in this thread. Mr. Digweed is a legend and so long as he continues to come to stereo I will always make the trip from Ottawa to see him from start to finish. It was also nice to be able to go up to stereo bar after and grab a beer and just reflect on the evening. I even got to meet Mr. Digweed him self and thank him for the job he did both this year and last year. He was very humble and took the time to shake my hand on his way out. I am sure he was in a rush and it was just nice to see that part of him.
