Your year and first gear...

Forum is a little slow these days. Gimme the year your started djing and your first gear.

I'll start:

2004 with virtual Dj and a mouse.

First real gear was about 2006-7: DJM 400 and 2x CDJ 800 mk2 (still rocking those decks today).

Your turn.

Oh god, 2000 I think.

Gemini XL100's and PMX20 mixer

awful, just awful. And on a sound system that was like 4 random speakers bridged together on 1 channel of this shitty half-broken receiver

Hehe, I remember like it was yesterday. I was working nightshift at the time in 2008 and I bought my first CDJ's and mixer off of Ebay.

2x Gemini 202's and a Gemini mixer (the entry level 3 channel on). Lmao, talk about shit.

After my CDJ's and mixer broke in a year's time, I used Virtual DJ with a mouse for about a year lol. Then, in 2009, I bought an Audio 2, X1 and Traktor pro, and received a DJM-400 for Christmas and DJ'ed on Traktor until 2013. Then, in the winter of 2013, I bought my two tech 1200's and haven't looked back since.

Denon 2600f dual CD players first year of college, 03' or 04'.
Black Technics 1200 in 2004 or 05', when I started collecting vinyl.
TB-303 around 2008.

Two CDJ 400s and a DJM 400. I've upgraded my mixer to an A&H Xone 42. Next step is to upgrade the CDJs to the 900s.

Hehe, your timing is a bit off there methinks

I believe it was December 2012 when I visited you and we jammed on your 1200's, and I think it had been a couple of months that you had them at that point.

Was it 2012? I always thought I got em after xmas lol, but I guess it was before? I know it was my last year of undergrad, and it was cold as fuck outside. Think it was in November?

That would make sense

Started DJing in 2002 with a pair of Technics 1200 turntables.

I learned everything with my first setup and still have it today.

Numark TTX100's, Gemini KL19 Pro, Sony MDR500

Fucking noobs, this makes me feel so old but thankfully I'm not.....

1996. On a pair of soundlab DLP1 belt drive turntables and and a soundlab 2 channel mixer. Shit literally had 2 faders, 2 gains and a Xfader, That's it. Plugged in to a pioneer tape deck/ghetto blaster with some really shit headphones. Taught me to mix but fuck did those puppies drift.

First technics was very early 1998 - Got SL1210 mk2's and Gemini 626 (shit quality but I loved the layout on that mixer, especially the little xfader for the headphone mix and the push button kill swtiches). We did sometimes use my mate's Intimidation Don II though which was a beast.

Now? I have my dream setup:

2 x Tech 1210 Mk5G's, Vestax PMC 55 10 input mixer, 2 x CDJ 800's and Sony 7509HD phones. So much fucking fun to play on it.

1998 - 2 x soundlab dlp1600 belt drive turntables and a soundlab dsm5 mixer. both the decks and mixer were awful. saved up and bought a set of 1210MK2s in early 2000(which I still have, along with a Pioneer DJM-T1)

Lol, at last someone that doesn't make me feel ancient. Those decks were only marginally better than my DLP-1. Was a lot of fun riding them to keep them in time

I think the DLP1 were actually better than the 1600 - the 1600 had the really crappy horizontal pitch slider

Fuck, you know I just realized I actually had the DLP1600's - My GF had the DLP-1's at her house, but what I had at home was the DLP 1600 - that fucking shitty little horizontal pitch fader jogged my memory lol!

Tbh, you could od a mix on them though. I'l always be fond of them as they taught me to mix and weirdly, when I bought my first set of techs, my very first mix was flawless. I remember thinking "so this is what it must be like to drive a porsche".
