Audio recorder suggestions?

Hey guys. Any suggestions for good quality recorders? I'd like to have a recorder to record set at home and at gigs.. Preferably something with a good build quality that also records in wav.

just use an external soundcard and record on a laptop

Example - Behringer UCA 222 and Audacity (which is a free download)

the soundcard plugs into the usb on a laptop, has an input from the mixer and an output to the mixer. simples, use the software to record.
Audacity will allow you to export recordings in wav format.

If using Traktor to DJ with, just use the record section on Traktor to record your set.

Neo's right. Traktor has a neat function to internally record but otherwise any basic soundcard will d the job. Just calibrate you levels so you have headroom in case you or anyone else push the gain/masters. A mixer with a dedicated rec out or 2nd master is always best but at least have the record out coming from one set of outputs and your speakers from another. That way if you need more level or someone starts cranking it, your recorded mix isn't completely clipped.

Finally, some like to have a simple room mic setup going to another set of inputs on the the soundcard, to get a bit of the atmosphere. Then just comp it in any audio program afterwards for a b it of crowd.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've used the traktor sound card before. I just recently gave it away to a friend as I don't use it much and it's just collecting dust. I should clarify that I'm looking for a handheld recorder. Any suggestions for those?

Zoom H4n

Records simultaneous stereo line + mic files in wav.
Saved to SD card, so either edit on the unit or drag into your audio editor.

Superb unit.

Wicked. Thanks for the tip. I went to check it out and really liked the options on it. The balanced ins are a great option too. So far, this and the h5 are the most suitable ones I've come across. The Tascam DR-100MKII is also a good one.
