Winter NAMM 2015

It's just a few weeks away. Who's going? What are you guys hoping for?

Posted by djnitride on Jan-10-2015 04:17:

1. News about what is to become of Camel Audio / Alchemy 2
2. Spectrasonics Update of any kind
3. Native Instruments actually updating some of their flagships

It's like we share a brain or something.

And, I know it's becoming a tired old cliche by now, but Access is probably officially overdue for something - a new/updated synth, or a big OS update...something. Not that I'm really in the market for a new Virus or anything, but it just seems like they're going to need something soon if they want to keep up with all the new synths hitting the market lately.

I don't know if I could resist a new and improved Virus... I got DUNE 2 to fill the void of not owning a Virus Ti2 but if they make it even more awesome I wouldn't mind owning a physical synth or two.

Maybe a drop in price on the Prophet 12? One can only dream

Alchemy 2 from whoever bought Camel Audio.

Mostly looking forward to seeing/hearing the Korg Arp Odyssey. Strongly rumoured to include filters from all 3 variations.

Elektron Overbridge would be nice to see as well.

And I'm intrigued to see how the Camel story unfolds.

Yeah, the odyssey looks really interesting but overbridge - if they do what they are promising - is what I have been banging on about for years; physical hardware drum machines that integrate with software.

I'm really interested in what it will look like, and may kill my yearning for a new electribe....

I'm not sold on the new electribes at all right now. The old ones always sounded good, no matter how ham fisted the youtube demo was. The new ones sound a bit shit tbh. Kind of thin and plasticky.

Overbridge appeals to me greatly though. It's a shame they're restricting it to the analog models only, I would have thought the Octatrack at the very least would have benefited most from DAW integration, especially with sample management and import.

I've read that Roland will be introducing something interesting, along with some possible AIRA additions.

The main beef I have with the New Tribes is that so far (and in fairness to Korg I've not got my grubbies on one yet to play with) is that they seem to have the same 90's sounds as the old ones.

This means, if they haven't (or won't) do some USB style / Library editor / PC bridge thing, and they force you to real time sample or load via SD card etc, then they are going to be as about as useful as an inflatable dartboard.

They also do sound a bit tinny, but then the demo's out there are truly shit so I'm reserving judgement right now.

It will suck if they limit overbridge to the analogue stuff - I like Elektron but the analog machines are just too expensive for how limited they are.

They've already confirmed that overbridge is for analog models only. I don't get it. The only reason I can think is that the older models are overdue an update that would totally changed the OS and therefore mean coding overbridge for them a waste of time.

I agree about the Electribes too. The only decent demo I've seen was the Mistabishi one last year. The synth engine should be decent as it's from the Kong, but it does sound a bit rubbish. I've never seen such a shit bunch of demos for a new product though. Korg need a Dataline for the electribes, and Mistabishi ain't it.

Kinda hoping Behringer release an extension module to their X-Touch controller. IMHO they should've made a larger version in the first place.

Looks like Roland has a new analogue synth comin out.

Coulnd't agree more. I wish they had done a version with just faders, no transport or shuttle wheel.

If they do that, you could build quite a nice 24ch controller desk for the price of about one Avid / Euphonix Artist mix lol

It's here and I've not heard a thing about it yet.

edit: oh wow, looks like a Prophet 6 - please dont be too expensive please dont be too expensive

Anybody wanna buy my Mopho X4?

Posted by cryophonik on Jan-22-2015 17:10:

BTW, they said they'd be making 2 announcements. Haven't seen the second one yet, but I'm gonna guess that it's a module of some sort (hope I'm wrong, though).

Spectrasonics is supposed to make an announcement in about 40 minutes.

Access announced the same Polar DarkStar that they announced in 2009.

Roland has two fucking hideous looking Fisher-Price neon analog/digital synth monstrosities that look like they were shat out by elves and/or unicorns.

Moog announced a limited edition modular system ranging from $10K - $150K. They're already sold out (I bought one just to put on eBay).

Arturia has a new BeatStep Pro.

Tons of other cool shit, too. NAMM is rocking this year!

We'll find out in about 15 minutes. Apparently, they'll be streaming it live from here:
