Smiley DJ The headphone thread.

This thread is for discussion all things headphones.

So, which headphones are you rockin? Mind telling us why? or any specific one you're interested in that's coming out that you saw at Namm, Musicmesse, etc?

So basically I bought the senn's hd8's for almost half the price new at musiciansfriend including a coupon when I called in.

Boy, do I just love these headphones. I'll tell why in a updated post.

Cheers.

I've used my Sony v700's for nearly ten years with zero issues. I'd say I've gotten my money's worth! Some say they're heavy and prone to cracking but I find both to be non issues. They have excellent isolation which, when, I was starting off DJing back in the day, made it easier to mix.

Still using my V700's as well, on my 2nd set as the first set I had did crack and fall to pieces but the 2nd set I have had now for 8 years and are still in almost perfect condition.
(Sony apparently made the build quality better on them in later years after a lot of complaints about them cracking)

I have tried other brands of headphones but still loving the V700's!

That's awesome! Yeah the sound isolation is always what did it for me. Love em.

I really liked my v700's but I got the cracks and the eventually disintegrated on me. I got about 5 years out of them.

however, I bought the Sony MDR7509HD's and have never looked back. They are like the 700's in terms of that they sound "nice" (i.e. slightly biased in certain areas like a hifi is) but the detail is just staggering. I actually have to be careful with them when producing because they pick out detail that my monitors can't, so if you start to focus on those things and engineer to them, you play it on monitors or a car system and you don't hear them lol.

But for DJ'ing, I doubt I'll ever buy anything else. I've also had them 8 years and aside from the headband and ear pad fabric coating coming off (you can buy replacements) they are perfect.

Sigh, the 7509's are the ones I never to go try and man I used a lot of headphones (fetish if you ask me). Anyway I'm done with my collecting and I will def settle on other things like that new Rane mixer haha.

It's weird though, not many places stock them. I only really ever see them on Amazon. I think it's because they are a little more expensive (around $200) and with most DJ's, the sweet spot is below $150.

You ended up with good cans anyway - I wouldn't sweat it.
