lol, what? Dance Department has been running on Radio 538 since the mid 90's. It's just the name of their Dance programming.
Ha ha, I still have cd's with Dance Department episodes I recorded so many years ago that I don't even know how long exactly.
So the only new thing is Armin

That's a different one and that's from 1999 and it's a trance set. The one I am referring to is this one below the tracks he plays here are commercial house.
I wanted to post this petition to rename ASOT which has been hosted by Armin van Buuren because the show is no longer about Trance music anymore it's more like EDM pop, Electro House/ Big Room Dance and commercial screaming pop songs and it's divided the fanbase further where the former trance fans have moved onto underground techno or just left the genre completely and the fans currently drowning his discord and facebook feed are not very knowledgeable people when it comes to Trance music so I decided to vote in this petition. I hope other people can agree with me. Sadly, ASOT also has been flooded by Armada tracks as well. There is nothing "Trancy" about the current crop of producers/tunes he plays on his show. Only a handful I would still consider to be trance. The rest of the stuff sounds like euro dance or derivative of electro house/commercial pop.

Haven't there been petitions like this since, gosh, 2008?
Good luck with that.

Yeah I tried listening to that dance department show.
He's just playing the most popular , tech house, dance , & big room.
It's nothing really groundbreaking , or new.
He's playing it extremely safe. Like he always has. The guy is a fucking clown .

He is making shit like this now. The original was from 2014 and this a remix he did 10 years and not much has progressed and both are equally bad.

I used to be more critical of him, say 2012-2020, but I better understand the conundrum he faces - he cannot completely abandon Trance because he's one of the top 3 most successful (active) DJ+producers easily associated with the genre ...and he cannot (since at least 2010) ignore the big room sound/cheesy pop-ish tracks/remixes he has spit out because there is an audience/demand for that as well. He rides the line since going full into EDM/pop-ish stuff or full into Trance wouldn't make sense. He also beats himself up alot over the negative commentary online from haters - we should be grateful he's still putting in effort even if it's not what you specifically feel he "should" be doing. Throw in the Armada label stuff, his family and staff under his umbrella and you see that the dude has a lot going on.
I liken it to the early days of TA where I had to make a decision between fighting for posting more sets of MP3s/music videos OR stopping all that entirely so the forums/community could grow without risk of getting shut down. Some of those same ppl who threatened to shut down TA and one who actually reported me+had me CC'd about it (lol) caused me so many headaches ...and they also ended up playing TA stages at Tomorrowland and thanking me later.
It's easy to sit behind your computer and think things are black & white. One thing I do wish Armin did was create a more catchy alias more tailored to his old Trance sound - I suppose "Rising Star" would qualify for that but most wouldn't know what that is
