Hello! Friday 2025 Thread

Well, what better time to start this year's thread than after a TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE BLOOD MOON, eh?

Given humanity's gradual progression towards global peace and respect for the environment, we are certainly living through the most idyllic of times! I'd say, almost deserving of a Veracocha - Carte Blanche soundtrack to accompany it.

What say you for this weekend?

Might get out for some last runs. The hills still have lots of decent snow!

Went to Sven Vath in LA this past Saturday. Fucking AMAZING DJ. Haven't heard a good set like that in a long time. Just me and 2 other friends. Our wives gave us permission to go out while they stayed home to watch the kids. Gonna have to think of a good mothers day gift now.

I wonder who Sven made out with to avoid being detained

Now that you mention it, he was definitely chatting with a lot of ladies while playing.

Meh... I rather fancied seeing the blood moon last Friday But, either it couldnt be arsed to rise above this godforsaken patch of sky I call home, or the storm barged in and nicked its thunder (All puns intended. None regretted. Come at me!)

Meanwhile, Im over the moon I couldnt see. Ive finally started making the kind of music my fifteen-year-old self would have obsessed over until the batteries exploded - curled up in an airless bedroom, clutching a Walkman like it was some sacred relic. Imagine the Chemical Brothers remixing Blink-182 after downing three Red Bulls and getting dumped by the girl they wrote half their lyrics about. It sort of sounds like that... only with more distorted guitar samples, overly compressed beats, and the emotional maturity of a fruit fly on a sugar crash (i.e. my default state)

Think all the small block-rocking things and you might begin to understand why Ive now developed the musical equivalent of writers block. Or rock block. Or just this brain rotting thing. If it werent for the ghastly necessity of employment and my frankly pathological urge to spend hours bouncing around the brothership (named thus because my studio setup looks like a mothership cobbled together by two hungover frat bros armed with a single screwdriver and a shared sense of misplaced confidence), I might actually finish a song or three. Or at least get to leave home with something more than just the intro to something that sounds like a cursed remix of What's My Age Again?

Its gotten so wildly out of hand that Ive fled to my wifes farm for the night (as we do all Friday evenings) but this time I brought only a pair of MIDI controllers and an external hard drive full of unfinished chaos. Its now 1 AM. The dogs are asleep. The owls are judging me. And Ive just realised I left all my clothes at home. Not some. All. I am a man with a Maschine and no clean socks or underpants.

In more ways than one, I now absolutely stink.

I am sick. I have been sick for 2 weeks.
I moved into my girlfriends at Yonge and Eg last week.
I owe her a lobster dinner because the last few months I was scraping by while I transitioned to a new career. I finally got a job and got paid in my new role after living for 6 months off savings. I am back and she needs to be rewarded for sticking by me while I nickle and dimed every fun decision we made.

30k/day ain't what it used to be!

Posted by JEO on Mar-29-2025 00:06:

I was once sick for two weeks and ended up passing this almost blood red stool after laying on the sofa for days without shitting. It looked like it was wrapped in a colored condom or something. Obviously I panicked, but I'm not gonna contact a doctor because of the color of my stool.

Posted by planetaryplayer on Mar-30-2025 02:43:

The red slime is pretty concerning but not as concerning as not shitting in 2 days. I would have called the paramedics at the 12h mark. Maybe you dont eat as much roadkill as I do

The kids are having spring break next week. The family and are headed up to norther california to visit family for the weekend, followed by glamping (we're not the outdoorsy type) near Yosemite National Park. Hopefully doing some light hiking and exploring nature.

Why does it seem every week in 2025 has like a month's worth of "news" compared to 2000?

Definitely a combination of us getting older and the state of the media/world today

These stupid tariffs lately lol - I'm lucky I was able to get the brake pads/rotors I needed to service my car before the US/EU tariffs kicked in. There was no issue with stock in Feb compared to now

I think it's just the general increase in bullshit.

The weird thing about making pop punk in a home studio on a Friday night is that, yes, there's the fact that I'm twice the age I was when I first considered doing it (but didn't have the wherewithal to pull it off), but there's also the fact that it's perfectly possible to do it on your own these days. It's also much more feasible than making electronic music because I can just sit down at the piano and come up with the melodies, whereas I gave up making drum'n'bass for the time being because by the time I'd loaded up all the plug-ins, adult life beckoned me back to my responsibilities.

Also, the irony of me singing about sticking to the man when I'm pretty much the man is not lost on me

Several months later and it even sucks more like it all starts over again

Helping out my wife move stuff out of her hair studio for some renovations on Friday night. Heading to Cabo, MX for vacation with the family.

Rufus du Sol this weekend at the Rose Bowl. For the unfamiliar, the Rose Bowl is HUGE, usually hosting college football games, concerts and various events. Not a big fan of RdS but my wife and friends enjoy them. We saw them at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago and I think I may have been the only person sitting in my seat.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Aug-18-2025 16:15:

Yeah lots of my friends love 'em too. Not for me but I appreciate what they do.

Friday night I went to see Kornel Kovacs at a sick new-ish spot where the hosts/promoters bring in a lot of what I'm into. Saw Motor City Drum Ensemble there in June.

Happy Friday everyone. It's labor day weekend here in the US which means we have Monday off. I used to LIVE for these type of weekends (hence the profile name).

Plans for the weekend:
Friday night: ramen for the kids, wine for mommy and daddy, kids spotify playlist for dancing in the evening.
Saturday: possibly the beach but I'd be very happy with staying home and watching my phone.
Sunday: birthday/pool party at a friends place. LOTS of beer!
Monday: recovery and dreading to view my work inbox on Tuesday.

Fridays are no longer Fridays. I shall miss them forever.

My boy attended tryouts at a football club nearby a few weeks ago. They were so impressed that they put him on the U7 team instead of with the bambinis his age (5). Now we're in for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday practices 430-600 and matches home or away on Saturday mornings at 9. He played his first yesterday. Was a bit overwhelmed initially but persevered and scored three goals in the second half. Such an emotional roller coaster but one of the most amazing feelings and moments of my life. Little dude is a baller.

That sounds pretty awesome yo!!! I am hoping to put my oldest (9) into a volleyball trial/learning program. Trial meaning it's for kids who have never played volleyball and are learning the basics. She's more of artsy girl but we're trying different sporty things to see what she's into.

Good Lordy! Logged back in after so many years to find the tried and true still around! Hopped back and forth across the Atlantic and settled in India for now. Hope all's well with y'all!!

Camping with the family and some friends w/ kids as well this weekend. Well, it's more 'glamping' than camping. We're staying at a KOA campground. KOA has campgrounds all across the US and have trailer/RV, tent, and in our case, cabins. They have a pool, general store, playground and all sorts of stuff to keep the kids occupied. So it'll be a chance to kick back, let the kids run around, and drink beer (mostly me).

Well it's Friday so I guess the post I made in the wrong thread yesterday is fair play here.

Long weekend so I went out last night after work to see Paul Woolford.
