current trend of generic comatose progressive house/organic house

i don't know to me this trend of organic house sounds lame they sound all the same with the same percussion back tracking and the percussions and pads sound like they've been stripped of life. Even the tech house stuff too i miss how progressive house used to sound like when it was closer to trance or proper house music

I want to hear progressive like this below not the comatose stuff james Grant plays.

Could just be me but hasn't this sound been flat for about 10 years now? And honestly if you posted any of the prog guys from Sudbeat or Lost & Found instead of Anjunabeat, I doubt anyone would notice. It's really all just one sound now.

They sure have "the sound" dialed in. Like vanilla ice cream. Formula can't be improved anymore. Couldn't say why the factory only churns out one flavor. Perhaps it has something to do with internet, social media, clicks, low attention span, tik tok, lack of taste-breaking leader type dj's, exodus of talent in the producer pool due to lack of financial or artistic incentives or something else?

Perhaps its none of the above and it is rather us who are wrong to go looking for innovation from a generic label and we should rather point our attention to emerging genres from some local scenes?

Why are you listening to Anjunadeep sets?

I prefer the 2nd set. There's a different audience for the first set, so to each his own.

There are a few reasons, I am only listening out of curiosity to see how they are but they seem to be all the same I also listen because I am hoping to be wrong and also Everyone is copying this generic comatose style of progressive house even Hernan Cattaneo. I think no one has brought it up. It seems to be quite a popular label and video and I wanted people to discuss it and even some of the underground people seem to be playing their stuff.

2nd set is dope that's why I posted it but there is a huge quality difference between the two as well.

At least with vanilla ice cream it's something you can enjoy not this I would say.

That's the issue though it's become a flatline nothing groovy about them just tracks stripped of their elements and they are calling that 'innovative' and 'forward thinking' and 'intelligent'

oh yea I hate this shit so much, let me listen a little more tho.

oh yup I really do hate this, let me listen just a little more.

fuck yea, so much hate right now; its good hate.

lets make a thread to hate it, that will show the genre.

yup i confirmed it.

i've been following anjunadeep for a while, there is a lot of merit to the sound, its extremely well produced for the most part, once in a while some good sounds appear here and there, good atmopsheres; pads.

no idea who makes prog house prog house these days haha, its mostly amalgamations of a secondary genre. that shit was perfected long ago, what curiosity is there to dispel. shits getting boring in general.

Yup pretty much everytime i listen to i just skim pass it. I don't waste that much time on it. I feel the same way about JOOF's radioshow too.

In the Oslo Nights context, nobody I'm aware of. The closest might be Zero Tolerance Records but that's more to the darker, ethnic form of prog (Luke Chable, Moshic etc) and they're hit or miss.

We've got a whole thread a couple of inches down the screen with 150+ posts of producers, DJs and mixes playing modern progressive with a classic throwback sound and you're still clicking on the Anjunafluff drone cam stream live from the erogenous zone of Mount Kilimanjaro and going "Guys, why can't I find any good prog?"

Would these not fit onto an Oslo Nights broadcast? They're all less than 6 months old.

Christopher Ledger - Journey To Crato

Elfenberg - Bansuri Bang

Jeku - Frostbite (Dub Mix)

Cheers for the share.

Here are the broadcasts for anyone else interested: https://www.mixesdb.com/w/Category:Oslo_Nights

Really loving the few sets I've played. Going to obsess over this for the next few months.

As for Anjunadeep, I still have a (semi) soft spot for them. I'll play their first compilations when the location, mood and crowd are right. Love Anjunadeep 1-6. The new stuff is purely daytime background music at the beach when I'm tuned out with my wife and kid or people who don't know/like dance music. Went to see James and Jody in Brixton years ago before COVID. Had a blast, but other than seeing Yotto at ADE the same year, I haven't really rocked with them much since. Something really put me off after seeing half the dancefloor at Phonox wearing Anjuna merchandise. Don't get me wrong, fun and cool crowd, but it felt a bit cultish and cringe. That said, Marsh was someone I followed on Twitch during the lockdowns. Had some fun nights watching. He's not my cup of tea anymore either, but I'm happy he's found a home at the label.

Same, maybe as I get a bit older and mellow out a bit more, I can vibe with the more 'background music' esque Anjunadeep stuff. Sure, it definitely gets samey but there are some gems that stand out to me here and there.

Oslo Nights was my shit back in the day.
