what the **** is going on with markus schulz?
okay so i always wrote this guy off as the "aw man its the sleepy mcprog that sounds good but i need to be in the mood for it"
and then i randomly hear two songs by him
what the night gave me
doesn't actually sound terrible, has a decent build up and quite energetic?
and this, 10 seconds before sunrise? a decent melodic techno track?
HELLO?
Terrible his Mcprog stuff was heaps better
Im not gunna lie here when I say Markus Schulz has almost single handedly kept the big main room prog/tech/melodic trance with sprinklings of vocals thing alive for a few years now.
He is leagues ahead of just about anyone else trying to do it every single week with his podcast. The last 6 months to a year or so especially. Whether he does a techno trance episode or a prog episode or a live set or just goes the full journey.
Its not bleeding edge Close Proximity/Maruwa/Autoflower stuff that nobody has quite nailed yet. Its trance for the masses and its pretty fucking enjoyable and it works right now.
He is very very good at what he does.
Excellent even.
Everyone waited with baited breath for Tiesto to bring back trance with his return when all along Markus Schulz does the best Tiesto 2025 around.
he is objectively up there with the goats of the trance scene.
Desperate times, needs to remake everything all over again, since he lost his inspiration.
Just sayin'
If I didn't take my first pill to Tiesto then Markus would've been my first love. Always great parties in MIA and his mixes had a continuity to them that those of his ilk couldn't grasp as the years past. Cool guy, an amazing DJ and a man of credible consistency.
Another artist that is still relevant even if I haven't followed him in years. Thanks for the update.
God i miss the mcprog sound. Has been pretty much dead for 20 years now

Gotta move with the times man. I dunno I like it. The groove itself isn't far off a Joof type groove. Just more accessible/fluffy trimmings.
Mcprog always only had a short shelf life.

I know McProg got a bit of a bad rap back in the day (that sidechain!) but I'll be damned if some of it just hits the spot. Especially liked a lot of stuff from Andy Moor, Probspot, and Perry O'Neill... but this was always my fave Schulz production:
