Talking

awesome track selection, every tune is quality, this is going straight to CD once I get a decent cue sheet

Posted by dmts on Feb-03-2003 15:05:

great tune selection.

awful, lazy mixing. most bedroom DJs could put those tunes together better than that.

4/10 must try harder.

i read the comments on this set and expected much much more. didn't care much for the track selection or the mixing... pretty boring if u ask me

u'll find that there are many bedroom DJs out there better than the pros, but the way it goes these days is its hard to become a DJ without producing first. Sad but true

Dumb question:

Just got set, but for labelling purposes, can someone plz clarify the venue and city for this set.

Posted by DJ_Skaya on Feb-07-2003 02:19:

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I really wish this set had been mixed on turntables. The track selection is perhaps the best of any set I've heard in the last 2-3 years, which is why I find it so dissapointing. IMO, the true magic of a great DJ comes in how they play the tunes, how they get the crowd going, and how instead of just playing a bunch of tracks, they compile a bunch of great songs and with their talent and skill, blend them into a cohesive whole. I felt this set had almost no flow and little energy. Maybe I'm just weird and don't like the sound of computer mixing, but I felt this could have been something really special if it were manually mixed.

In spite of all this, the track selection of this set is absolutely brilliant. For that I have to give it an 8/10

Posted by DJDigDug on Feb-10-2003 18:40:

yeah mixing is bland but track selection is cool IMO.
Was this really computer mixed?
Either way the set goes ok and track selection makes up for sub par mixing. 8/10

great tracks.. poor mixing

Posted by raditz on Feb-21-2003 05:40:

The set is pretty nice, I like it a lot until around the min 28, I just get lost from there on. The tracks are good, there are 2 or 3 that are a bit odd to me, but overall is ok. I give it a 8/10

Great set, I really enjoy listening to it.

Thumbs up

Absolutely brilliant tracks! This set is nothing but top quality tunes. Nothing is boring, nothing is cheesy. The mixing is nothing special, but I gave it a 10 based on the tracks alone. As soon as I heard this set I ordered Sonorous Protonic, Sun Decade - Im Alone, and Aly & Fila - Eyes of Horus. Amazing tracks! Best set Ive heard in a long time!

Read This! Ronski's set is on speed, pun intended

What do you notice when a set is "poorly mixed"? Is it beat-matching, tempo, or the selection of tracks used?

I agree that the track list is stellar. He's made a fan out of this TA and I'll look forward to new mixes or tours.

when people claim that a set is 'poorly mixed', it can mean many things.. but usually people are referring to the transitions. even if the beatmapping is perfect, the position where the next track is inserted can make a huge difference between a good and bad mix. this is usually determined by the knowledge of the tracks being played, because if you know a track inside and out, you will know when the breakdowns/buildups are, when the beat fades, etc etc..

another aspect of 'poorly mixed' is beatmapping, finding small breaks or jumps of beats, but that is usually pretty obvious..

one final key aspect (well i think that it is really important!) is the flow of the tracks. sure, if the beatmapping is perfect, and the transition is perfect, but the first tune is a light trance song and the second is a hardcore techno.. there may be some problems! (of course this is just an extreme example, but you get my drift) these livesets have to be seen as a whole. each track individually is important, but the way that they fit into the whole set is really important..

i would have to agree with just about everyone else on this.. the set wasnt a perfect mix, but the track selection is great. 7/10

Great tracklist...bad mixing. I'd give it a 9 if the mixing was better but I'll have to say the set is a 7/10, and i loves driftwood - freeloader

Very solid mix by ronski, love the tracks, and like everyone else has stated the mixing could be improved... however it was a great mix.
8/10

The East German producer and DJ Ronski Speed aka Sun Decade has created some of the most in demand tracks and remixes of the last few years. Both his solo records ("E.O.S." and "Iris") and Sun Decade singles ("Follow You" and the groundbreaking "I'm Alone") were genuine club smashes and were hammered by the likes of Paul van Dyk, Tisto, Armin van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold and Ferry Corsten.

Starting his career in 1997, Ronski was quickly signed to brand new label Euphonic. He kicked off with remixes of Kyau vs. Albert "Outside" and the now legendary "Glass Garden by Sonorous. From there he co-produced with Mirco De Govia (including the tracks "Epic Monolith" & "Things That Matter") and on Mircos remix work which has included Ralphie Bs "Massive", Kyau vs. Alberts "Velvet Morning" and Lasgos "Something".

Together with his studio mate Rough Mullar aka Sonorous he wrote the singles "Second Sun" and "Protonic. In 2002 they both started the project Sun Decade together alongside singer Devia Lea. The first release was the legendary "I'm Alone", which became a massive club hit in Tranceland.

At the beginning of 2003 Ronski Speed delivered a series of quality remixes which further helped him to spread his name all over world. These include his reworkings of "1998" by Binary Finary, "Eye of Horus" by Aly & Fila and "Sunrise" by Goldenscan which all defined his sound.

2004 has been his strongest year so far. The first Ronski Speed DJ mix compilation "Positive Ways 3" was released showcasing for the first time Ronskis deck-side abilities. He has again created a slew of hugely received remixes (including Miros By Your Side, Armin van Buurens Burned With Desire, Phoenixstars "The Example 60", Rusch & Murrays "The Promise" and Kyau vs. Albert "Not With You"). The early summer saw an enormous reception to his second solo single "E.O.S.". Lately Ronski entered at number 83 of the 2004 DJ mag Top 100 voting.

Currently he is busy travelling around the globe to deejay for all his fans. Ronski already performed in the UK, USA, Russia, Holland, Switzerland, Scandinavia and not to forget his home country Germany.
