Obviously THAT version of Medway - Bassline track is one for me.

There's probably a gazillion ID's and edited versions of tunes that can't come to mind right now however, I do remember one in particular. In the NYE 1997 mix on Triple J with Digweed, there's a great version of Slacker's your face that I have never heard since nor can I find it anywhere. Starts at roughly 1 hr 27 mins.




I'll probably edit this post as I'm almost certain I'll have more contributions.

Ahh the dub mix. Yes I know of this one, not usually a fan of slacker but this one has grown on me.

Honestly, I don't care about this stuff anymore. Lusting over some obscure prog record from 1997 might have made sense when prog was a finite resource like northern soul, and old records were the only way to get more of it. These days there's twenty great new tunes released every month that you don't have to hunt down like Moby Dick to get hold of.

Chasing people around on Discogs for years on end trying to get a slightly different version of a track as played out as The Baseline Track is an endeavour for the obsessive collectors and I've never been one of those.

Before this gets out of hand, I wanna say the- sixth and system-j have both done a lot for the online dance community. I hope we can agree to disagree.

It's not going to get out of hand, don't worry Matt. Aydrean has spent a hell of a lot of money and energy over the years doing what he does and he's got a reputation in the extremely niche scene that is the prog house classics community as the collector's collector. I'm sure that brings him plenty of satisfaction that's not going to be diminished by anything I say.

For me, I thought about this question and basically realised I don't obsess over classics sets like I used to 5+ years ago. I'll buy oldies if I can get hold of them easily enough, but it's just a fundamentally different landscape now.

My wife and I will forever love Sasha and Digweed. Sasha's actually playing this weekend at an Anjunadeep day show (no babysitter = no go for us). Although their old mixes and tracks are nostalgic, I can only handle a few minutes before boredom sets in. There's this moment of "Yes! Honey! Do you remember this track?!?!" to "Okay, I'm done. What's for dinner."

BUT if Sasha or Diggers were to throw down one of their classic tracks during a live set/show we're attending, you know I'm going APE SHIT over it!!

I suppose if there's one lost release I would like to come to light, it would be Paul Van Dyk's final album for MFS that was never released. Sasha and Digweed were playing the original promo version of Avenue in '97 which PVD had to re-record in full to get around the copyright dispute, and tracklists suggest one of the IDs at the end of Digweed's Gainsville set in 1997 was another track from that album.

I was never much of a fan of Out There And Back, and it would be interesting to know if the album-that-never-was would be more in keeping with PVD's sound around '97.

But then, I remember reading about BT and Sasha collaborating with Peter Gabriel in 1998 on an ambient world music album that was never released and thinking it would have sounded amazing if it ever saw the light of day. That one turned out not to be a PVD track, but one hidden on a Goa CD. The producer did release on MFS however so perhaps Paul gave it to John along with his album stuff?
