I don't believe it's apples and oranges at all. I think it's safe to say many of us visit Ibiza for most of the same reasons we go to WMC. Maybe red apples and green apples.
So, here's the first category preceded by a small intro and disclaimer, which weren't important, except for the last sentence, which perfectly foreshadowed my laziness, haha...........
Obviously, these are only going to be my opinions and my observations. In no way am I an expert, or stating my conclusions as pure fact. It's just something I've been pondering and I'm curious as to how my thoughts will play out. I welcome any and all objective input. Hopefully, harsh criticism of my analysis will be witheld, but I know how the internet is, haha. Also, there is no need to inform me of how bored I must be or how I have too much time on my hands, because I am already very aware of such things. In any case, I realize that there will probably be holes in my reasoning throughout but, whatever, it's just for fun anyway. I just hope that one or two people enjoy the read. So, here it goes......................
Ibiza vs WMC
All right, so the premise of this is to look at the five or six days in Miami during Winter Music Conference, and compare it to an equivalent amount of time in Ibiza. I see the flaw in such a comparison, since the Miami side of things is a once-in-a-year special event, while Ibiza remains in a similar state for the entire summer. In no way could I simply compare Miami to Ibiza, because we all know that Ibiza would dominate such a discussion by fans of edm. So, to make things a little more fair, it's WMC versus any stretch during the summer on the island. I will break it down into different categories, comparing the two, and then picking which one I think comes out on top. At the end, I hope to have an opinion of which one wins the overall discussion. Or I just might grow weary of the entire idea and scrap it all together, in which case no one will even read this sentence, so................ um................ yeah:
Location
What does it's position on the globe offer, in terms of proximity?
Ibiza: A short flying distance from so many of the great cities on this planet. Since so many international flights connect in London, France, Barcelona, and Madrid, for a lot of people it's never more, figuratively speaking, than a hop and a skip away. Also, it's almost an equal, and not too horrible, distance away from the Americas and most of Asia. The fact that it is an island means that nobody can drive to it, and there are only a few locations with direct flights.
WMC: Miami's location at the very southeastern tip of the U.S. means a bit of a hike for most anybody. While a short flight from anything east of the mississippi, even west coast residents have to strap in for a little bit. Two fairly large international airports (FLL and MIA) mean not too many headaches (read:connections) coming from overseas, though not exactly a walk in the park, either. Driving is a painless option for anything as far north as maybe Atlanta.
Edge: Ibiza - Really, one of the more centralized vaca spots on the planet (sorry Australia, but no place is close to you)
