Jack Moss - Higher Peaks [Progressive]

Every year around Easter, a group of friends and I set off on a spiritual pilgrimage, hiking up to the top of a big hill in the Peak District and setting up camp with a view down onto a spectacular valley. We gather around a chain of bluetooth speakers and we spend the whole day dancing to mixes we've recorded specifically with the aim of soundtracking that stunning panoramic view. It's a beautiful experience, and this here is my mix from the latest expedition. Definitely one to enjoy outdoors with a great view.

01. Fantastic Man - Lounge Wizard [Love International]
02. Jamie Leather - Metropolis [Omike]
03. Jono Fernandez - Colours Of Conscience (Fretwell Remix) [Electrofly]
04. Leama - Melodica (Northface Remix) [Platipus]
05. Man/ipulate - Music Call [Certain Music]
06. Urulu - Mollare Qualcuno [One Records]
07. CLJL & Jamie Leather - Like This Like That [Craigie Knowes]
08. Christopher Ledger - Nala's Groove [Another Place]
09. Donald's House - Bordeaux (Sunsets With Romain) [Permanent Vacation]
10. Palmiz - Love Sensation [FLIRT]
11. Wigs - Eternal Sun [Goddezz]
12. Wigs & Body Clinic - NK Prog [39 Records]
13. Christopher Ledger - Access Denied [Another Place]
14. No Moon - Aoe_Rushin (Adam Pits Remix) [X-Kalay]
15. Aldonna - Pisa 97 [Permanent Vacation]
16. Clint - Bliss Science [Permanent Vacation]
17. Mpeg - Gentle Grit (Baby Rollen Remix) [Permanent Vacation]

I like that youve described this as progressive. Looking at the tracklist this is packed with the modern trance producers weve been playing loads of recently, but progressive is definitely the right term, and this is a throwback to how progressive used to sound before it got homogenised into the slower plodder / floaty sounds of recent decades. This contains lots of throw everything into the track tunes which makes the set really interesting and unique right from the word go

I often find when sets start out with upbeat breaks numbers like you do in this set, the transition into more typical 4x4 progressive numbers can feel a bit flat. You mostly avoided this here (though moving into Colours of Conscience I did feel the energy drop a little. It quickly picked back up again, especially with Man/ipulate - Music Call, which brought back the welcome 90s house vibes

Following that - theres loads of great tunes Ive been hammering in my sets like Like This Like That and the closing trio, and some brilliant gems Ill be stealing immediately, especially Eternal Sun and Access Denied. I also like the frequent twists and turns into and out of the breakbeat numbers that happen later in the set - I dont get the sense of dropping energy at all later in the back half

Top work!

Cheers for the review, mate. The one thing I'd say with these Edale mixes is the emphasis isn't really on energy like it is in a normal club set. It's often the really deep and floaty tracks are the biggest moments up there, and that section of Colours Of Conscience and Melodica, where you highlight a drop in energy, literally had everyone with their eyes closed and a big grin on their face, just blissing out. It's actually easy to second-guess yourself putting these together at home, because what can sound a bit fluffy and aimless at ground level just sounds majestic when you get there.

I did think Colours Of Conscience might sound a bit thin in terms of production punch compared to the other tunes, but on those Mini Rig subs the bassline actually came through really deep and aquatic.

yea, nice coherency on the set. I enjoy the late 90's vibes, fun blend of newwordly sounds, deep(ish) house, prog house and even some mcprog leads. the first segment I didnt really much attach to, but about 27 minutes in, started to enjoyed thoroughly. the only transition that irked me was at 49 minutes, seems off a semitone or something. Donald's House - Bordeaux (Sunsets with Romain) unlocked some nostalgia for me. nice work.

I dont follow these releases much, these are all newer type of tracks I assume? wouldnt mind some classics thrown in as a greed type thing.

*edit im going to be honest, I wasn't as attentive as I should have listening, I may write a follow-up. I really spaced out at the beginning.

One day I'll make a mix where you enjoy the intro section! The vast majority of the tracklist is new stuff. Ironically, the two classics I played are in those first 27 minutes.

I'm not one for words, it's difficult to write anything other than I played this and enjoyed it. Particularly the section around Wigs' tracks. So much great music around this scene now, and I'll be cautiously watching for your next mixes lest you shotgun all the upcoming releases I have my eye on.
