I'm a heavy advocate of using the PC to DJ. It's an amazing tool, like sasha says, you can do stuff on a computer that you just can't do with Vinyl.

It just looks odd when a "dj" (doesn't even really sound right, disc jockey :-D ) is behind a laptop rather then decks.

But in the end, why should it matter what tools the artist uses, as long as the end result is something amazing

its funny how sasha claims that djs need to play more diverse sets, and change, but the tracklisting for his recent sets are pretty similiar.

(certainly not complaining, i love his sets)

i dont like the idea of a laptop, it just doesnt seem authentic, but maybe sasha's controller will bring more respect to Laptop DJ'ing

Authentic? Vinyl is obselete, CDs sound better, and why should you have carry around a crate of records when you can have all of them on your hard drive? It's more convient, you have a larger span of creativity, you get better sound, I don't see why people won't accept it as a true form of DJ'ing. It's about the music, not the fucking tools used to play it.

Of course mixing off Vinyl requires more skill, I will always respect those who can do it, I have only had limited time on vinyl/cd decks, and it amazes me how people can take 2 songs by 2 different artists and make them blend together as if they were made to do that.

But its the 21st century and its time for DJ technology to progress, we are limiting ourselves by not accepting new forms of DJ'ing.

Maybe I'm one of the few people who share this view point...

Great article. Just saw Sasha for the first time last week and he was great. I'm not even going to touch the arguement on vinyl vs. CD's. Let's just say I would go the balance route. A little bit of anything won't hurt anyone.

Sorry dude, but vinyl can reproduce a wider frequency of sounds than a cd can, and they do sound better, especially EDM music.

the truth about them sounding better is more true when talking about real instruments and not dance music
