Dunno Polyphony question

Hey got a question...

I've noticed myself that some soft synths start to lose there shiz
when you have lots of oscs running and unison fo example because ur chewing up
all the polyphony.. Voices right?

How come someone doesn't make a soft synth with unli
ited or a massive amount of
voices so we don't encounter this problem?
Or have they and I just have never heard of these synth??
Haha

The more voices you use, the more processing power the synth chews up. The processing power of your computer will always limit the number of voices you can use, although in practical terms you may never need the maximum limit, depending on what synths, patches, and effects you use, and how you write your melodies. A patch with lots of unison will bog down your CPU more quickly.

Sounds like maybe you're encountering voice stealing. Depending on the synth that you're using, you may be able to set the polyphony for each patch up to the synth's maximum. In other words, you may be using a synth that has 24-voice polyphony, for example, but you're using a preset that is set to a max of 8. So, if that's the case, check your manual, or look at the GUI/menus for a parameter that sets the voice assignment - usually a parameter called "Polyphony" or "Voices".

This is also common in relationships that exceed 3 years.

A man opens his mouth and hears a females voice.

This can sometimes be beneficial actually. I remember getting an entirely different sound on Cubase SX3 on my old shitty PC in comparison to my new one and that is because the old one just couldn't process everything. Sounded better though

well theres the obvious "bounce your vsti's to audio" to free up boatloads of CPU... But also check any settings in your VSTi. quite a few of them will come with options that will allow you to run mad poly with minimal oversampling (during playback) then you can hike it up to 8x / 16x oversampling or whatev you when you render.
