Hi, have recently started using ableton and watching videos for beginners on how to use it and get started. Wondering what would be the best steps to take in terms of what to learn first? Loads of different videos showing loads of different things. Is there certain steps to take that will make it easier for me? Dont want to dedicate lots of time to something that i am not going to use for ages.

Start making music.


It'll be shit, so then do it again.


Then it'll be slightly better, but still shit.


Keep doing that for several years.

Lol kind of figured that would be the case. What i meant was which parts to learn first? does it really matter? Preparing to be at it for a long time, just wondering if there is ways to make the journey a bit easier for me.

The only thing that'll really make it easier is actually doing it as much as possible.

The other thing would be to get some kind of decent monitoring system/setup so that you can actually hear what's going on. The cheapest way into that is monitoring headphones. That is not Beats by Dre.

Don't worry about tools either. Your DAW will have everything you need in there already, and anything else is just more to learn. It's difficult not to be tempted with new gear that promises miracles though. Very little of it actually delivers.

Actually looking to buy a decent soundcard at the minute. have 2 KRK Rokit r8s and an Alienware laptop. In the meantime I've been using my DJ'ing Pioneer HDJ 1500 headphones. Sound now, but looking to get it going with the speakers. Thnaks for the reply mate, much appreciated.
