In music that's more meant to "serve a purpose" (well yes, arguably all music serves a purpose), like dance music, I feel like it won't matter to many people. In dance music it's 50/50 for me too. I don't feel as invested in dance music as I used to, so I don't care as much as I did before, although on a general level I quite strongly oppose the whole idea of AI-generated music. I can't even imagine how little the average music consumer cares. There are loads of people to whom the artist might as well be a neural network churning out an endless stream of their favorite genre, and they'd be fine with it. They just simply wouldn't notice. If music is simply a utility to you, why would you care?

In my favorite genres, ambient and many subgenres of metal, I care much more. It's quite normal for me to "research" an artist and possibly their views for hours on end. That would obviously be quite a different thing in e.g. AI-generated black metal. One of the main tropes of the whole subgenre is misanthropy, but I can kind of feel that for at least 95% of BM listeners the music has to be human-made.

To me music, and all art, is about human expression. I tend to look at the person behind the art right after the art itself. Art is, and I hope will continue to be, an extension of the human(s) behind it.

in a way its not fair to knock the technology advancement, people have been making music based on programming languages for decades, what is another layer? It is quite impressive what programmers can do.

at the end of the day, music is made to be enjoyed and ultimately its up to the enjoyer to decide as such. Its just interesting to try to forecast cultural implications if there even are any.

I don't know. I don't like it. I hope the BM scene will see its first murder in a while after some doofus tries to enter the scene with a Suno production.

I think eventually it will be illegal to hate on anything AI//LLM related. the money is there. you will be sent to the gulag or stripped of your remaining humanity.

This isn't directed at you, but I am so fucking weary of hearing about AI, AI, AI. I was at a work event last week and all every stiff in a suit talked about was about how AI is imminently going to change every aspect of what we do for the better and we should all embrace it.

We've been living in this AI era for almost three years now and all AI has really done is flood the Internet with some stupid images and lots of cookie-cutter chirpy social media posts. If it's going to change the world for the better, it needs to get the fuck on with it, because at the moment nothing has really happened and investors are already starting to notice that the economic outputs aren't matching the levels of funding.

It's the same with music. AI is going to change how we make and listen to music forever? Get on with it, then. Show me the results that aren't sat in the uncanny valley of blandness.
