Max Graham- Coastline

I think this is a good track that could really be fantastic...

I really like the melody but the beat is so hollow, empty, and lifeless. Sounds 2004 van dyk garbage.

A good remix of this track could really be something...

Are we talking about the same track?

The beat drives Coastline forward with its deep, brooding presence. Add the ethereal pads to the mix and you have a brilliant track. In fact I prefer the dub mix that does away with the melody all together and focuses on the beats.

I think there's a point to having a beat like that. It's simple and effective. The same could be said for a lot of minimal tech. Of course, remixes would be variations on a theme. And I agree with you there

What I don't get it with certain tracks, why people say the kick should be "tougher" or "less hollow" or something... why? That just makes them more like other tracks. It'd be unique to have, say, Miami Bass-style boom and antics on a dark trance track. I'm sure it's been done already but I appreciate that variety and how different people approach things.

I do appreciate personal re-editing for customization and creativity's sake, but all I'm saying is that there should be no forced reason for homogenization in trance. If you want to use that same detuned saw lead over and over, go ahead -- but if you want to do something different and pull out a hurdy-gurdy, you're welcome to do that too.

Music's subjective in the end

Max...just keep on doing what you do. Don't mind everyone else. An opinion is just that...an opinion.

Take care
