dvd recorder
I am interested in buying my mom a dvd recorder because she has been going VCR's like crazy over the past few years recording her soaps.
Are these DVD recorder a replacement for a VCR??
1)Will have the same capabilities as a VCR like choose times to record at will when she is not home
2)Are the dvd-r rewirtes just like a Video casstte tape meaning can you re-record over them at will?
Thansk to anyone who can help me out and Happy new year suckas!

Why not get Tevo or a similar dvr? You waste absolutely no tapes, dvd-r's, and same more money in the end. Bingo!

1)Since I never heard of a DVD recorder that can record in real-time then I would say that is a big disadvantage. A VCR on the other hand, can.
2)Yes and they're called dvd-rw's.

yeah this real-time is the entire point of replacing a vcr.

I noticed these dual vcr/dvd recorders.
I guess use one tape all the time to do the record work at real time then move the recorded ish on to the dvd over and over. This would be the only method ATM because there are no "real time" dvd recorders yet?
