Zinedine Zidane’s infamous head-butt on Marco Materazzi in the World Cup Final will be investigated by FIFA.
The game’s world governing body have admitted today that the incident which marred the World Cup Final will be examined by their disciplinary commission.
"FIFA will open a disciplinary investigation into Zidane's conduct to enable it to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident as exactly as possible," read a FIFA statement.
Zidane, who has now retired from the game, is still expected to be handed an official suspension – possibly up to six games.
It’s unclear at this stage whether Materazzi could face punishment if he is found to have actively provoked the Frenchman.

they banned one of the swiss players for 6 matches for fighting after the turkey game...effectively ruling him out of world cup selection...then after the squad was submited rescinded it to 4 weeks..meaning he couldve been selected.
yet more fifa stupidity. someone should ban fifa from international football for 6 games..i think the game would benefit to be honest!

Someone else who may not have been happy about the final..
World Cup organiser shot himself after final
By Times Online and agencies
The top World Cup official in Berlin shot himself in the head hours after the dramatic final on Sunday night. He survived and was today in a serious condition in hospital.
Juergen Kiessling, 65, known in the German capital as "Mister World Cup", was found by the emergency services at his home in the northern suburb of Reinickendorf early on Monday. A handgun was found nearby.
The Berliner Zeitung newspaper said that Mr Kiessling, a widower, had left two suicide notes, one to his young daughter and the other to the rest of his family. He lived alone with his daughter after his wife died several years ago. The newspaper claimed the notes said Mr Kiessling had "political problems".
Mr Kiessling is the top sports official in the city-state of Berlin’s government and was a World Cup coordinator for football’s governing body FIFA. He was responsible for the hugely successful Fan Mile in central Berlin, where giant screens showed the matches to hundreds of thousands of ticketless fans. The tournament was seen worldwide as an organisational triumph for Germany.

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

They have to ban him even if he retires or not. Just to make sure he doesnt try and come back.
