Good Bongo/Conga Tutorial

I'm having a hard time getting bongos and congas sounding right in a mix. Can anyone suggest a decent tutorial to get started?

Panning, slight reverb (look up pianoverb on google, free and good plugin which works very well on percussion and hammer instruments such as the piano), delicate volume settings... I guess tha's mostly what it is about.

That depends, on tribal beats it's no so much the timing itself (IMO!!).
It's more the interaction of slightly different samples and different volumes. Using exactly the same samples each time you trigger your percussion often makes it sound lifeless.

In a less overwhelming percussion piece it would be all abot the rythm and charactar, which is in the fine details... Again, volume, reverd, panning, slightly different samples etc.

Just put some percussion on 1/8th's of a beat somewhere, you'll hear soon enough if it sounds okay.

Trial and error helped me a lot, just try some stuff and keep on doing it for a while until you get to a point where you understand how the rythms you like work.
