i gotta admit that at first i was a tad bit hesitant to listen to this guy because of his name... tONKPROJECT. it sounds too childish and affiliated with cookie cutter trance net labels. but, as it appears, he certainly can create some dark + moody deep/prog house.
the first 3 songs of the release remind me of Herbert, Carl Craig, etc. all pretty slow and jazzy. the vocals on track 3 are subtle enough that they complement rather than detract from its serenity. and the last song seems to be the most aggressive, albeit, least inspired of the bunch. truthfully, i think mr tonk can only get better from here.. hes just needs room to explore. im more interested in a full lp- which would obviously provide a better illustration of what he is capable of, rather than a random collection of marketable deep house tunes.
