During tonight's event, Obama was heckled by a shockingly disrespectful lawmaker who shouted, "You lie!" in the middle of the president's speech. And that wasn't the only episode intended to humiliate and embarass. Republicans burst into audible laughter/ridicule at several points during the speech.

Later, Rahm Emanuel approached the lawmakers to ask who had embarassed the President. When told it was R.-S.C. Wilson, Emanuel said,

I fear that the answer has to do with race. As much as it pains me to say it, a white Congressman feels less restrained in publicly shouting down a President (with a capital "P") if that person's skin color is black.

Think about it: would this ever happen if the President was white? Would people act a little more restrained?

BTW: how would you react if someone personally insulted you, by saying directly to your face: "You lie"? Say, on the street, at work, or in school? This actually happened to me once in the workplace. A colleague verbally assaulted me in a direct way. I really felt myself losing control and a fight could easily have escalated. This is a very dangerous thing to say to a person's face.

The guy who made the Obama as the Joker posters was a racist (until it was uncovered he was Middle Eastern and a Dennis Kucinich supporter... shhhh). Black MSNBC anchor (forgot his name) says "socialist" is really a code word for the "N" word. Black CA Democrat Rep. Diane Watson said the GOP doesn't want to support Obamacare because "he looks like me," and then went on to praise Fidel Castro's leadership (this is the same woman to referrs to D.C. as "Chocolate City" and blasted Ward Connerly for marrying a white woman).

Look, I remember how Bush was also heckled by the Democrats during the war. But if you remember, he was always given a polite forum in this country. Even liberals showed respect for the office of the presidency at that time.

This is the first time in my life I bring up racism. I've never done it before, when talking about this President. But my hunch is that, just like tall people "tower over" shorter people and feel entitled to act slightly superior to them, so do lighter-skinned people subconsciously feel superior to darker-skinned people and feel as if they can "loosen up" a bit. This is a very well documented phenomenon.

I don't think it's because he's black.

I think it's because the Republicans have no leader. The more childish members of the party have no one to whip them into shape when they step out of line, so they feel like they can do and say anything.

It could also be because Obama is very young, and old people don't respect younger people.

But don't run around looking at race as the be-all end-all reason for every disrespectful thing said to the President. That's just stupid.

Simple... the report by the Congressional Research Service from the other day. Evidently, their reports do not get released to the public and give private analysis to Congress on request.
