Sound Forge 10

Anybody here using SF10? I've had SF9 for a while and today is the last day to buy the SF10 upgrade for $100 off (reg. $239; $139 through today). The two new Izotope mastering plugs look interesting, as does the new pitch-shifter, but I can't decide if I think the new features are worth it and probably won't have much time to demo it. Anybody care to share their thoughts, particularly people who upgraded from SF9? Thanks!

i don't have it, but from those two updates alone, i wouldn't pay the hundred bucks. pitch-shifter is pretty much perfect in ableton or even traktor scratch so i wouldn't see the need for that- as for the mastering plugs.. meh.

my biggest gripe with soundforge is the stability issues- it crashes often if i'm trying to zoom in/out of a track while it's play.

Funnily I looked at SF etc last week as a mastering solution. Is that what you use it for?

I ended up re-importing a stereo render (at about -6db) into cubase and using just Ozone 4 for everything. Ozone 4 is just stunning.

Yeah - I use SF for mastering/finalizing and just various .wav editing needs. Sonar has a cool feature where you can open any .wav file in Sound Forge (or Wavelab, Audacity, etc.) and do your editing in-place using its more advanced features.

But, I decided to pass on the SF10 upgrade - it just doesn't seem like much added value over SF9.

Aha I see.

I think i'll stick with Ozone and the powercore plugs in a mastering session in Cubase for now. I don't feel limited (no pun) by it and it's features still outstrip my own by quite the margin.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that SF9 includes four "Izotope Powered" mastering plugins, which are essentially modules from Ozone - limiter, MB compressor, LP EQ, and mastering reverb. The SF10 upgrade added 2 more modules IIRC, but I don't recall which ones. I got SF9 for some ridiculously low price a few years ago and it was definitely worth it, but if you already have Ozone and your .wav editing needs covered, I'm not sure that it's worth the $400, unless you're doing some serious .wav editing. Audacity is free and covers the most essential tasks.
