The Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia (Edged Hill Remix)

Worth a finish?

Peak-time retake on the classic.

Comments or ideas on where to take it welcome.

On and off for a few years. Never anything seriously though. Just as and when I get time between work/uni.

Any suggestions on where to take it?

Keep it simple straight forward trancer? Or maybe go in another flow?

Edit - Thank you by the way!

Well, first thing I'd at the stage your at is move some of those notes so it wasn't a remix anymore but an orignal track ;-)

More top end around 8000htz on your lead synth (what have you made this on?) and cut everything below 300ktz, this will sound much tastier!

A Few more layers percussion and it's getting somewhere cool!

too much trebble on your sfx thing ;-) maybe shelf everything above 17,000htz off so it's not so harsh on the ear.

Sounds cool tho dood, could be even sweeter!

Thanks!

I'll look into it, just a mess around thing!

Lead is synth1, as is the bass and pad.

The acid lead is a TS404.

I'll fix that effects thing. It's way too loud in the mix, but I got bored lol.

Thanks for your pointers! Any tunes you got I can check?

Will do man, means a lot.

Any pointers on compression?

At the moment I simply use a fast attack compressor on certain channels to catch peaks that are eating my headroom.

People mention slow attack compression, where would this be used? I've tried it but can't seem to figure it out!

What's your's typical mix down technique?

I dont usually use long attack compression, not much anyway, I only really use the attach to create punch. Compression is a nightmare, everyone has their own idea of how it should be used, and in my opinion, it's used to much these days, everyone is competing for their track to be the loudest, and man, sometimes it just gets too much, even the breakdowns are loud! AGH!

But that said compression is very important if your making dance music especially. You need to think about using compressors for lots of reasons, not just keeping peaks down. Most of the time i use no attack at all. But the release is important. It's too much to explain on here im afraid.

As for mixdown. Some low ratio rms compression on your output strip, and a mulitband eq to really get the general eq right, then bounce it down and use a brick wall limiter in a wave editor like soundforge. Easy peasy. You can go mental on mastering, it will drive you mad and spiol the fun, hehe.

Much appreciated.

Thanks again, look forward to your next release!

What's your monitoring set up like btw?

I don't like spending money on gear because I know I'll never see a return on it and right now I got more important things to buy!

None the less, I bought some second hand Fostex PM1's last year and love them. However I need a soundcard, what you running?

All my other gear is ITB (and cheapo free shit too haha!).

you dont need to spend a fortune, my entire setup is prolly less that £1000, I used Alessis m1 active monitors and and old version of logic audio (5.1) on a beat up old pc thats prolly 8 years old!! And i can get a reasonable sound out of all that. Oh and a DMX 6fire soundcard. Could prolly pick up one of them cheap these days.

email me on [email protected] if you wanna keep chatting

Peace out, I'm off to the pub!
