...been trying to merge a few mp3 files together using different freeware but all of them leave a gap between 2 tracks. Need help finding a program that would merge tracks together and without any gaps.

mp3directcut can do this but it's somewhat complicated.

Let's say you have a liveset that for some reason has been cut to several smaller files and you want to make them one big file again, but without gaps. That is (I think, at least) what he wants to do.
yah audacity is good.
have a question about it tho: so i used to use audacity to rip stuff off of youtube, stuff like that. i don't really have any desire to do that again, or any need but it's bothered me so i want to ask- when i got a new laptop, one with a microphone, audacity's record function automatically records from my microphone. i could never figure out how to change it to simply record from the computer itself. that is, i used to just click record and anything playing, whether the volume was muted or not, would record perfectly. thanks.

You can usually change the recording source from the sound card's dashboard/settings.
If i remember correctly, in most Windows OS' microphone is the default option for recording but you can change it in simply Windows' volume settings. There should be separate options available for both playback and recording, depending on your OS version and/or soundcard there should be at least Mono Mix, Stereo Mix, Microphone, Line in, CD, Aux/Phone and Wave for optional recording sources.
