From auralex pads to acoustic prime isolation recoil pads any difference?

I'm planning on buying acoustic prime stabilizer pads for my focal twins. You think there would be a noticeable dfference or it will be the same. THe price difference is like 60 bucks more or less

From everything I've heard, yes.

But there are a few caveats:

1, If your room is untreated (and I can't remember if yours is?) then you're not going to see huge benefits from the switch.

Recoil Stabilizers mainly deal with tightening up the bottom end and this is where bass traps and secondary reflections really become crucial factors.

2, your speakers certainly warrant it, but what exactly do you have them mounted on? There's no point getting RS's if the shelf or stand it's on it not solid and free from resonance. Even the material it;s made from plays in to this. Play something with true sub bass (<100hz) and touch your the shelf where the speakers are mounted. If it's vibrating or resonating then you need to fix this first.

What i'm saying is that yes, they will improve the performance of your speakers but only if the other factors are compliant to the goal. There's no point putting a turbo on a people carrier.

I would say yes, then.

RS's will firm up response by adding mass to the stand while removing the negatove effect of resonant coupling. Your shelf is chipboard (not great for resonance issues) and it's not amazing supported in structral terms, so in this instance and for these factors, the RS will be good.

However:

While I can see you have some treatment, your speakers are waaaaaay to close to the wall behind them and they also seem pretty close together for where I imagine you sit, meaning your going to have both front and rear proximity issues, as well as a small stereo field.

My advice is to get the recoils, then think about a slightly wider shelf made out of a solid/dense wood and move the setup a little further away from the wall behind it.

Obviously, without seeing the rest of the room or a floorplan, or knowing how your treatment/modal anaylysis was done I can't really comment further.

i hate to do this because the money is spent but for others wanting something like this, you are better off getting something like the isoacoustic stands. Half the price and instead of absorbing , they just reflect which is a better solution if you have your speakers on a desk.

So ya , pads if you have stands, isolation stands if you are using a desk.

You're right, the Iso Acoustic stands are wicked, but two problems with them and one relates very specifically to Juan:

1, They don't make one big enough for the focal twins. You have to buy two for each speaker making them more expensive than recoils.

2, They only come in either 3 or 8 inch heights, and if you have the height of your desk set, they're going to fuck it all up.

ya the height thing might be too much. But they do come as pairs. 100$ for 2.
