Vocoder suggestions

What vocoders have you guys used that you would suggest as your favorite? I really want to get one that is very sensitive, with many tweakable settings. One that is highly responsive, with a filter attatched to it that controls frequency cuts/peaks as it picks up varying formants from your voice.

I've been using this free vocoder for a while and its pretty decent, retro grade type stuff and ive created some great textures using it, but i seem to want...more. ( http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-vocoder to download. dont be afraid its not "corrupt")

im not familiar with vocoders yet, but with this free one, bare in mind you must drop it in an audio track, create a midi track and route it into the audio track the vocoder is in, to play the notes and carry the sound. Is this how it is with all vocoders?

Are there any vocoders I can use as an effect on a sound completely outside the vocoder itself?

What ones do you like?

Vocodex is really very good.

It's also useful having a synth carrier onboard so no routing is necessary.

Plus 1 ! thats what I'm looking for for sure in one, all the routing right away when i use TAL has gotten a bit annoying. ill check out vocodex.

You can still use an external carrier signal as well if you want though.

Useful for modulating say a vocal with a drum loop

One thing that kinda bugs me about Vocodex, and maybe this happens with other vocoders as well, is that when its collapsed to mono it sounds god awful, not sure if theres any way to make it less stereo maybe its just the way vocoders are set up?

reaktor.

most of these just do the basic band splitting and pitch shifting via the midi trigger but there is so much more you can do.

Vocodex looks pretty nice from what I have read into. BUT, when L4C said reaktor it reminded me of Vokator, which I think im going to pick up after playing with my friends copy for a while.
