modal and non functional progressions, 1960.

same with melody, As i've said before, the only thing changing is aesthetic. For the last 40 years.

musicologists have been puzzled by this for a while but they realized this progression is a tone row whose pitches are taken from the first letter of the first 12 pages of a gay erotica best seller and quantized to he nearest pitch index. The row is then inverted and retrograded. This supplies a weighting system which then assigns in a some what aleatoric way the baseline.

The overlying harmonies are done similarly except the tone row is changed using the second letter. Then 3rd.

rather brilliant.

re Raphie, i don't think he was being serious.

Most of the biggest pop hits have recycled the same four chord progression for decades now. Like L4C said, it's all about aesthetics now, how they're used within a song or their accompanying lyrics.

Maybe, but we will never run out of rhythms.

No, we will never. Technically, there is an unimaginable amount of possible melodies, harmonies and rhythms, but we tend hold ourselves to an extremely limited case of them. This video explains it perfectly:

microtonal music is not going to appeal to 99.99% of people. Everything has been done.
