Serious bass-issues

Ok, so i`ve found a great sounding bass sound from my Linplug Octopus synthesizer, the problem is that there is some DC-offsett something in it that is eating all my headroom.

This is what it looks like, it looks the same exported in mono, as you can see the left side takes up more space than the right.

Here is how it sounds like:

Ive tried mixing in mono, various DC offsett plugins etc.

Any idea how i can fix this? Its eating way too much headroom in the mix

if you try and fix it with something crazy like DC offset, you'll change the sound (beyond compare if you try and move it to center). Remember this isn't about L+R, it's about polarity. and as an edit, it's not hwo the sound or mix looks, but how it sounds that is important

My advice - don't fix it and mix around it if you like the sound.

that's what remove dc offset does - high passes at about 10hz. There isn't that much energy in the bass sample provided, although it does fall on the beat and thus is probably fighting with the kick

Ive tried hi-passing, no change, DC-Offset plugins makes no difference either.

I put a limiter on it and i managed to reduce the DC Offset peaks enough for it to not steal all my headroom.

Personally I would just saturate it and shape it, naturally it will compress a bit. I plugged in the bass in my daw, didnt seem too bad after saturation. I think the culprit is the filter in the synth, it seems a bit wonky. I havent used that synth personally, maybe you did something wonky in the filter settings(check resonance)?

Yes it definitely creates some heavy transients. But some of those bass-presets are really good.

think it just needs eq and compression

the 2nd harmonic is rather prominent which is kinda distracting. SOunds like you have 5th in there.

Would close the filter a bit as well.

the problem could also be solved from the source.. It is an FM synth right ? Can you change the phase of the partials ?

i wouldn't of used an FM/PM synth for that sort of bass but thats me

but its a bit of a weird convo isn't it? the bass sounds like it does because of it's apparent weirdness; if you do stuff to it (other than a bit of light limiting or comp) you'll change the sound, so you may as well choose another sound.

work around it-- choose a kick that isn't in it's range, keep it sparse down there..
