I'm considering switching over to it as my mixer is Traktor certified. To anyone who is using it, what're some of your biggest pros and cons with it. I'd be using it with CDJs.

Thanks!

What CDJs are you going to be using with Traktor?
If using Pioneer CDJ 2000 / 2000 Nexus / CDJ 900 etc, then it wont matter if your mixer is Traktor compatible, those CDJs have their own soundcards, so you just plug them into the laptop via usb and the audio goes in the normal way to the mixer
Will you be running Traktor on a laptop? If so, make sure its a decent spec as Traktor can use a lot of CPU power, if its not that decent then it can make the tracks you play lag or sound 'off', or you can adjust the latency to compensate but best to have a half decent laptop to start with.
Also if using CDJs with the laptop as controllers, you will need at least 2 USB ports, one for each CDJ (you can use a powered usb hub as well but I find its more reliable using separate usb ports on the laptop)

The other thing I find with Traktor, is to also make sure you have iTunes installed, I had this odd glitch with just Traktor installed that it would not play m4a files, but when I installed iTunes, m4a files played (iTunes uses the m4a format of course)

Appreciate that detailed post. I'm actually still using CDJ-800 mk2 so the mixer will come into play (Ecler Evo 5). Was planning on updating the laptop with the DVS upgrade as well so sounds like I should be in good shape. I'm still running Torq which has been defunct for a few years now but has never given me any trouble. Just looking to move to something that is still getting new updates.

Thanks again.

You wont be able to use the CDJ 800 mkIIs as controllers for Traktor, as they have no midi function, unless you use a Native Instruments external soundcard as well, something like the audio 4 or audio 8 interface.

You will also need timecode cds for the CDJs

Hook the CDJs up to the mixer via the audio interface and the interface plugs into the laptop.

Your mixer will happily control Traktor all by itself, so you could do away with the cdjs altogether or just use them for playing cds lol

Yep I'd be using the cdjs with external time code CDs like I do now. Everything goes into the mixer which essentially has an onboard audio 8. Then one FireWire from mixer to laptop (although I'm gonna need an adapter for FireWire).

Thanks for the comments.

You know, I'm thinking about going either serato or traktor with my CDJ's now instead of my turntables.

The problem I have with any DVS is that I often just mix with the volume low (for background music, or while the missus is on the phone or we're just chilling) and I HATE the fucking timecode tone you hear from the stylus in the vinyl.

Kinda defeats the point as I wanted a way to play new digital tracks on my TT's but I suppose at least with CD's and a DVS it's easier than burning CD's

Pioneer should make a traktor certified CD player, so if you scratch your time code cds you dont have to order new ones. Here in the states guitar center doesn't sell NI Traktor Timecode in the store, you have to order them.

Ermmm, they kinda do..

CDJ 2000 Nexus
CDJ 2000
CDJ 900 Nexus
CDJ 900
CDJ 400
DDJ T1
MEP 7000
DDJ Ergo Limited controller (non cd)
DDJ Ergo V controller (non cd)

You don't need timecode CDs with the above, USB connection straight to your laptop and using HID, the CDJs then directly control Traktor.

plus these Traktor compatible mixers

DJM 900 Nexus
DJM 850
DJM T

Hey Neo, I need your help, now that I got HID up and running, its time to record a set. How do I do this if my sound card is Pioneer AISO. I'm running traktor 2.7 on windows 8.1

I tried recording in audacity with my NI10 in another usb input but traktor crashed in 45 min of a set and i'm going that route again.

Nvm, figured it out mehself.

I am glad you got it sorted, by the way, my name is Sarah, not Neo, thanks

I do things a little different to the Native Instruments way, but I do have two laptops in my studio, one for running Traktor, ITunes and Rekordbox, nothing else, the other laptop is for the internet / work etc but I also use it to record audio using Sony Soundforge or Audacity

The laptop with Traktor etc on it, I have disabled the soundcard on it and use the built in soundcards on the CDJ 2000s to play back audio
When using this laptop in a club and recording my mixes, I just use the built in recorder in Traktor, Traktor does not record audio, just data from what you are telling Traktor to do, so the file sizes are less and it also prevents Traktor from lagging.

When recording demo mixes at home, the 2nd laptop gets that job using the above mentioned soundforge or audacity.
I use an external soundcard to feed the audio into the laptop via USB though as the Vaio I have, only has a crappy mic input socket.

my external soundcard is a Behringer UCA 222, which is fairly cheap but more than up to the task.
plug the input phono of the UCA into the booth monitor out of my mixer and USB into the laptop, select the UCA as the soundcard in either soundforge or audacity.
