Still a TA and still lurk Occassionally
I was a lurker long before I joined TOTA.
Thanks Swamper for creating this great community.
I Still love Trance 100%, I Still love House 100% too
Even though I've been into different genres of dance music for a very long time. You cannot take the dance music out of my heart.
I can't believe it's been so long since I signed in to this board/community.
I left the board because life, true love and a new marraige got me busy. I think most of us turned to different apps for social networking too. Plus I moved away from Toronto like many other tranceraddicts did too.
Was there a lot of drama in here...Yes.
Were there a lot of fun reads in this community...Yes, Yes Indeed.
Were there behaviours from newer Trance cliques that were hurtful or left some feeling ostracized or unwanted. I suppose so.
Was there a lot of untruths and backlashes being spread by mouth or posted...Most def.
Were there also a lot of times full of friendly bantering on the boards too...OH YES THERE WAS THIS TOO.
Did our watching some drama unfold sour some of us from coming to the boards...I think it did.
Despite how judgy or toxic it got, the true music ppl found other ways to enjoy and connect with trance music which is always ever-changing.
I started travelling abroad for my events long before Covid put a downer on it. I'm still a night owl. 72hrs without sleep is still my top best.
I find now, that I don't always feel like I want to announce it on any platform--where I'm going or who I've seen because it's my thing/ my inner joy and passion. Also, I'm probably one of the few that never required drugs to enjoy it either.
Sometimes new Trance music sounds like crap and then all of a sudden a gem comes out.
Just Look at how it's changed:
Tiesto was big in Trance...and now he's declared himself all house.
Is he any good...meh, sometimes. Is he still full of himself--Oh Yes He Is!
Oakie, PVD, Armin, Ferry, Sasha & Digger still put out great events; but newer dj's playup to their crowds who really don't have as good an ear for it as we did, but then I'm bias.
Thinking of this from a different perspective, the newer Tranceheads didn't get to experience how great it really was when it was just fresh and new. When every song put out was good and not utter trash. That's our thing. That's how lucky we were.
I'll always have some nostalgic memories of our meetup at events like Cherry Beach. How positive and accepting some peeps were then. How we danced together. I especially miss the track ID's after event meetups (Shazam doesn't quite feel the same to me).
But people change. DJ's move on. Some fade away and others pass away too early.
No matter where everyone has gone away too, my heart will always have good memories of how I was a TOTA when Trance was fresh and new in the late 80s to early 2000's.
I think some of us look for different, more positive reinforcement of friends to connect with now; and if they are lucky to share a passion for the same trance music, well then, those are great new moments to treasure.
Here's hoping everyone has found Peace, Love, Unity and Respect.
Divided we fall, so please Make Love Not War! ...and keep the PLUR alive wherever you go.
