I've got a wedding gig in July for a best mate of mine.

Any tips for of how to play a bunch of tracks you don't particularly like? Would be grateful for any pointers....

Seriously, though - you're going to be a human jukebox. You're going to get a lot of stupid requests and nobody's going to care how you mix. Just go with it and don't think too much.

Looney4clooney actually had to DJ his brother's wedding a little while back. You should PM him. He pulled it off pretty well.

He went super overboard on it though, had his balls covered in little mirror squares so that when you shone a light on them it would dazzle the crowd.

i would never do a wedding again. It is just really hard to find a good wedding dj. Most either know their dance or the hits. Very few people know each era of music that extends beyond like the hits of that era. You should pretty much be a music library in your head.

Its harder than djing at a club where people are mostly on the same wavelength. You have to be able to infer what they like by their age, their clothing their race and well , its hard. You also have to ssensor any track that has like well a break up track. You can't play that. You have to run your playlist so that the planners ok it. You have to be able to access every track every made so you need internet in case your 10tb music collection is missing a glee version of some katy oerry track.

And you have to know what works on what soundsystems. Some music just doesn't work on smaller systems.

The mixing and technique part is really the last thing to worry about. If the bride is not dancing, if the bride;s mother all of a sudden gets all upset or leaves and doesn't come back, you might just have to play some springsteen. And every dance track needs a vocal so you need to really have your own edits. You can't play music that doesn't have vocals.

Sheesh. Well, that's pretty much confirmed my suspicions.

In this instance, bride & groom are deciding all music. Neither are EDM fans. I have suggested they pick a wide variety of stuff, but this is my first 'non-club' gig, so I guess I'll beat match where I can, play with some faders and pretend I know what I'm doing.
