I can't speak for PVP, but the stuff I'm talking about is wind-it-up bass drop techno, not melodic stuff.

Last night out: I went and saw Richie Hawtin a few weeks ago. I haven't cared about his music in years, but this was the biggest show my town had seen in a while. I'm sure he was using his Richie Hawtin[TM] mixer or something and it was a great night in an intimate setting.

Another 11 nights spent in Berlin. The whole experience is just lumped together in a foggy memory of sternburg drinking, confused handling of euro coins, trying to order club mate but getting anything but, gentle arm-strokes by shirtless southern european men and missing the dj sets I originally went there for. Here's some incoherent ramblings:

About Blank -> Suicide Circus -> Berghain -> Suicide Circus -> Tresor -> Griessmuehle -> Berghain.

I originally went to Suicide Circus to watch Dungeon Acid play live, but ended up arriving way too late (06 or something). Mr Huhta was about to pack his equipment while some dude in a ski mask was playing banging techno. I don't know what to think of this place. It seems to cater to the bland tech-house crowd, at least for their outside floor. Even though the place seems to have a rather strict door policy, I could still spot a number of drunk guys with pubcrawl shirts and loud british people with football jersies.

Berghain is a sunday requirement, so I had to go twice. Finnish sauna + japanese subway cart during rush hour. Apparently, Kobosil played Push - Universal Nation just as I left. The following sunday I arrived too late to see Eduardo De La Calle, but got to see a bit of Ben UFO and Anthony Parasole before heading home. They seem to have replaced the dark rooms on the entry level with some new dancefloor which everyone seems to hate. Relaxing on a bench outside a room full of orgies had its charm.

Blake Baxter played some nice house at 4Bar inside Tresor. I'm still disappointed that the merchandise room is gone, and that the meat-salad maker is nowhere to be found.

My new favourite place is probably Griessmuehle. I regret missing Surgeon but got to hear some really nice stuff by Randomer. I wish I could have gone there for saturday as well as DJ Bone was playing the 10:00 morning time slot. This place is too far away to attract backpackers, but even here, I could spot those dreadful pubcrawl shirts. Do locals wear them ironically?

Sadly no Berlin trip can ever be 100% complete since Stattbad Wedding is no more. Another recent horrific discovery is that the portable sptkauf/dner vendors outside the Warschauerstrasse S-bahn station have gone missing, probably due to construction.

I also intended to visit Arenaclub at least once, but it didn't fit my schedule. One party looked interesting, but the dresscode said leather, masks, bondage and straps so I decided to go somewhere else.

Went on the Anjunadeep at Sea cruise and had a great time.

At first, the heat on the boat roof was oppressive, it was 99 degrees out! Luckily, the inside of the boat had air conditioning. The boat was pretty big (NYC's biggest boat I think), around 3 floors plus a roof. Most people stayed on the roof or the 3rd floor (and there was ample seating inside the boat for when you needed a break) Thankfully, due to fire code, the boat wasn't crowded even though tickets sold out.

The show went from 3-9PM, then there was an afterparty at Output, which unfortunately I was too tired to attend. Don't quite have the stamina to dance all night like I did when I was younger (and on that note, I have no idea how the hell I'm gonna survive 3 days of Ezoo :P).

First up was James and Jody, and they played about what you'd expect. The melodic, fluttery modern day Anjunadeep stuff (i.e. WOW - Oceans). Really, the perfect kind of music to a sunny day cruise around NY.

The one of the 16 bit Lolitas was up, and he took things in a slightly more plodding, techier direction. At this point, the weather was (thankfully) becoming more overcast.

Next up was Yotto and Luttrell b2b. They played bass-heavy prog house, with a few anthemic moments. Definitely picked up the pace.

Finally was the Dusky boys. I'd have to say they were my absolute favorite, since they played more peak-time tech house (Scuba - Feel It, Cirez D - On & Off), and things were in full swing. Jody even came down to the dancefloor and he was dancing and posing for pictures with everyone!

Good crowd, it seemed to lean slightly older than the last few shows I went to (maybe because the cost was a bit steeper?)

Biggest problem were the drinks, the bars were absolutely swamped with people and the bartenders couldn't keep up. I finally got the attention of senpai but she then said "oh we're out of water" (I only wanted a bottled water). Luckily, I found there was a cash bar toward the back of the ship that just had beer and water, that had a much smaller line.

Aside from the great music, the scenery was awesome. I felt like a tourist in my own hometown, since I never took a cruise around NYC before. We passed under the Brooklyn Bridge, got up close to the Statue of Liberty, saw the WTC and Jersey City skylines in detail, made it up to Midtown. Really great atmosphere.

Now to do something about this sunburn...

I'm talking about stuff like B2 here, kind of cheap and corny simple pads/strings, often with a reverse breakdown.

Ha! this basically sounds like the couple attempts me and a musician friend of mine made to make a trancey techno song. This song is pretty average. Could sound decent blasting from a giant speaker system though.

Here we go! Saw Sasha and Digweed play a 4 hour set at echostage last saturday night in DC. Before i give you my full review and highlights, i should warn everybody for full disclosure, that while they didnt play like it was 1999, I sure as hell partied like it so perhaps the chemicals in my mind made it sound much better than it was.

So, this was an absolutely amazing party. Mainly because of the crowd. Wow, wow. Every old school raver, the heads, the candy flippin hippies, the twilo kids, and even the warm hugging candy ravers of the 90s made an appearance. This felt like a family party. The energy and joy of the crowd was palpable. people fucking danced, went crazy, and had an amazing time. The crowd really turned back the clock. I had almost forgotten how much fun it is to hug random damn strangers on the dancefloor. For some reason, I got the feeling that this perhaps is what Berghain has. The crowd. Its absolutely amazing how much the crowd is a part of the show. The crowd made this night. God bless all of them. Really brought back a flood of memories of the wonderful parties of the past.

Now onto the music. They played for 4 hours and truth be told looked like they were yanked off the stage. You got the feeling that both of them would have loved to play for another 2 hours at least. The mixing as usual was flawless. But their problem has never been mixing so much as poor track selection lately. They crowd was amped from the get go, and after starting out slow for about 15 minutes they turned it up. They played a lot of that proggy kind of techno thats around right now. The two of them worked really well together. now, i didnt necessarily love all their track selections, but they did have a lot of energy and hammered some tracks that really destroyed the dancefloor.

One of the best moments of the night occurred about more than halfway into the set. They dropped Laurent Garnier- From the Crypt to the Astrofloor. holy fuck, you have to hear this live on a giant sound system. Absolute dancefloor destruction. Jesus what a track and they set it up perfectly.

Now, i really got the feeling that they either lost track of time or thought they would be allowed to play longer than the 4am cutoff because you could tell they wanted to build up the tension and release it over the end of the set with the more melancholic and melodic stuff but it felt like they had to rush that into the last 15-20 minutes when they probably needed to do it over like 45 minutes. They played both Nathan Fakes Degreelessness overmono remix and a violent noise (four tet remix) towards the end. The latter of which i am pretty sure was the set closer. Only reason I wasnt sure is that I thought they threw in some production work for like 1-2 minutes at the end of that track but not fully sure. Like I said before, I wasnt exactly sober so i am not 100% sure. Both songs were really good but I really do feel like what was missing was for better or worse, a trancey type of track they could have played. Its sad because both are so good at setting up a trance track to finish sets that its a shame they just dont do it anymore. That being said, that four tet remix is amazing coming from a giant system and was still a good ending to a good set.

Overall, it wasnt vintage sasha and digweed, but it was still good enough and the crowd pushed it into an epic night. They played some more songs that I knew but i dont really remember which ones as those 3 were probably the highlights for me or at least the ones I remember the best. Great night, great party, and I hope they continue to play together and push their sounds more. We may never again get vintage sasha and digweed but this was good enough for me.

lmao, Berghain (downstairs) is a bunch of people on 2g of speed and/or too much G that jerk around wildly while looking grim and not paying attention to anyone else

It wasn't always that extreme but it's always been more that intensive serious raving rather than PLUR euphoria.
