Echo Audiofire 2 has nice converters, is cheap and includes MIDI i/o.
Which means you can buy an used synthesizer to plug in and get some original sounds together with usually a better keyboard than most USB controllers (price may even be cheaper).

decent enough preamps and solid as a tank also usb & firewire

had my moog source running on expert sleepers in 30 mins once i had the right connectors... saved $150 on buying the kenton converter

i also use it as a 4 stereo outputs for using ableton live or traktor and it sounds light years better than the NI garbage
