Hello, on the 18th of this month, I'm flying in to Amsterdam. I am very very excited as I've never been to the Netherlands. It's my graduation present from me, to me. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a few things to me. My total trip is from May 18th - June 1st (too short, but I have to get to work, and don't have too much money)
I am interested in:
- Great things to see (general tourism, not necessarily music specific)
- Great clubs to go to, I know they are listed in the first post here, but I'd like to know if any great TAs have residencies. I'd like to see some local non internationally famous talent while I visit.
- I'd like to see Ferry's upcoming show: http://www.huizemaas.nl/
But I can't read the Dutch. And I am unsure about ticket prices, if I have to reserve them, if they are sold out, and which I'd have to buy to just see Ferry. I'd need 2 tickets (me and a friend).
Record stores, again, I know there is a list on the first post. But I'm looking for maybe a ton of second hand records at good prices, is there any store especially good at this?
I'd be super appreciative of any help. I can't wait to see Holland! I've read up as much as I could on all the normal touristy stuff. But I want to hear about it from people I can trust musically :-). I'll also be going to Brussels, France (champagne county) and Germany (probably Frankfurt), but I anticipate spending most of my time in the Netherlands.
If only I could have learned any Dutch. I'm told it's difficult.
Thanks,
-Eric Friesen

i'll see about that later
as for cool things in amsterdam... madame tussaud, the wax museum is neat, but pricey. just walking around amsterdam is fun. the dam, the red light district, the shops in the center. rijks museum is nice, van gogh if you're into that kinda stuff (i found the van gogh museum kinda boring). boom chicago is an improv theater run by an american company i think. its good but you may not be interested coming from the states
some cool clubs are escape, melkweg, kingdom
for record shops, midtown is good. if you can take a train out to breda, magik record shop is cool to check out, but its a ways from amsterdam.
brussels is nice, not too sure whats good there to do, didnt spend much time there. but bruges is really cute to visit. you can get a weekend return ticket to bruges from amsterdam. go to brussels on friday, then to bruges on saturday and antwerp on sunday, return to amsterdam sunday evening (or antwerp, bruges, brussels). its cheaper and a day per town is more or less enough to check em out.
cant think of anything else so if ya got more questions post them here
