anyways, when this Ohio thread started I would have never imagined that people would be discussing issues such as these! In all seriousness, they would not sticky our thread because "there is not enough Ohio TA's, and not enough posts!"

Anyways, i'm so glad there are others here now that go out FOR the music, to HEAR the music and DANCE to the music... let me tell you guys here in Vegas its all about who is dressed the nicest, has the most girls with them, or who spends the most on bottle service in the VIP... nevermind the fact that we get headliners every damn day of the week... its ridiculous. It may sound odd but living here makes me miss the Cleveland scene... seriously. TBH if I was home I would have gone to see Tiesto... and some of the similar complaints *may* have been shared by me (being a DJ myself) but I would have gone and danced and had fun regardless, that is paramount... otherwise why the hell would I waste my time?!

where is the "turning point" for Cleveland these days? Because if someone said Tiesto was coming to Cleveland in 2000 it would have been a laughing matter... if you are disheartened by what Tiesto brought to the table, then for shit sake check out some of the local Cleveland DJ's and events... or the Akron one's... there is so much local talent like when the headrushmusic crew was doing their weekly at abbasso! If you expected different when you went to see Tiesto in CLEVELAND then you have not been around the EDM scene there for very long

It's weird because before I left when headliner's started getting booked on the regular in Cleveland, I noticed people showing up I'd never seen before... *some* I could tell didn't give 2 shits about the music nor the scene... I think it's good people critique these big name guys that *NOW* get booked in Cleveland but if you think its shite then don't go out, instead go to a local event!!!!

Once again, the paramount thing here is to enjoy the music and have fun. Anyone who didn't find what they were looking for I highly suggest you go to the Grand Poo-Bas webpage and subscribe to Doug's email list... he sends out local events weekly, and those events NEVER let me down while I lived there...

If it weren't for DJ's such as Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, etc this genre wouldn't even have a pulse. They've kept it alive on a larger scale world-wide so that all of you can enjoy the music and continue to make it. In the end it all comes down to marketing and the almighty $$, but if you go into every show with the mindset of "this is supposed to be like this or that" or for the DJs here "this isn't how I DO IT" you'll set yourself up for disappointment. Why even put that much thought into? I suppose I'm contradicting my very last sentence by putting this much thought into what I'm typing...
Again, just my observations---expressing my views that are not negative. I'm just a little sad that so many people are so freakin sad/depressed/critical of every little thing around here. Cleveland gets a bad rep. by and large b/c of the attitudes people possess--Negative.
I grew up on the east coast and cannot for the life of me figure out why people are so neurotic around here (cleveland) where everything is cheaper, less crowded, and there's so much potential to bring in so much culture.
Anyone read the article about keeping the EDM scene alive in "Scene" a few weeks back? Thoughts...

Alright, now I've lived in Cleveland for the past three years. I moved here from Bombay, India where the clubbing scene is 2343242344048203834x better than most of the cities in the US minus LA, San Fran, NYC, Miami and DC (the big ones). So if you think I'm defensive, neurotic and/or critical, don't hold it against people from Cleveland. They're pretty darn nice IMO.

If you are a big dj, suck it up and take the feedback, even if it's us 'jealous' djs being critical. Trance and EDM has always been an underground scene, day in and day out people are trying to raise the bar by out doing themselves and trying to stick to original art. "Big Djs" who commercialize the shit out of the underground scene should atleast do it in a skillful manner.

If you were the #1 Dj in the world and were given the responsiblity of spreading the word of this underground culture, would you just go out and play w/e the eff you felt like?
I, personally, feel these famous djs have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders, if they screw up they are going to be criticized for it.

Shubs, I'm sorry, but the whole "underground" nonsense is a lackluster cop-out. If things remain "underground" and under-appreciated for too long...people lose interest and the fad dies out. Its simple marketing.
The key to a multi-faceted culture is having things on multiple levels--underground, middle-stream, and main-stream--so that you can reach the largest possible audience.
If 99% of US cities are lacking in the EDM scene its due to our own fault and no one elses. DJS won't go where people don't want to hear them. Personally, I'd like EVERY DJ from every EDM genre to take note and expand the scene in new places that are often neglected.

On a side note....its a super bad idea to go to Traffic on a Saturday night. I'm horrified places like that even exist outside of college campuses and spring break destinations. If you want to be nit-picky about DJs performances, I can hand you 10 no-name DJS that will remain no-name b/c they can't even effectively mix top 40 at shitty bars in the warehouse district. I guess i've outgrown the jagerbombs and grindfests that are "normal" weekend clubs.

Anyone have any opinions on Detroit's EDM scene? I'm thinking of heading up to party with a friend who's not that into EDM, but I'm gonna convert him. Suggestions please!

George Acosta is definitely on my list of must-see DJ's...hands down my favorite live (sorry KT!).

And this thread has taken an interesting turn. I wish I had been able to check it earlier and more often. I'm an ordinary listener and I post here. I can pick out a bad transition, but as was mentioned earlier, I wince and move on because otherwise, the music will carry on without me. I'm there to enjoy the whole experience...the music, the beer, the lights, the temperature, the movement of people through the venue, the crazy shit they all do, the full body massage of the bass, all of it.

If you walked out on a DJ because you didn't like his set, fine. That's your opinion. However, DJ's like Tiesto are popular for a reason and it may not be technical perfection. He's just able to appeal to a wider range than others and its that popularity that draws people to the music. Some of those people will like what they hear and look into it more. I got hooked into this music by a recommendation to check out Gatecrasher's website several years ago. I liked the clips I heard and bought some of the CD's - some of that stuff was no doubt popular and, in some people's opinion, overplayed. But it hooked me. I wanted more. Now I may be disappointed in a show from time to time for whatever reason, but there's no need to try to convince people here that your low opinion of a particular DJ is right. You saw him live once and are trying to brand him?

Anyway, I'm going to sleep~

I'm going to make a sincere effort to take the days off to see AvB and Acosta especially. I got into him the same summer I got into Tiesto so I feel like its just another part of the right of passage to see him live after all these years.
Hopefully I'll be seeing some of you in a couple weeks...if not party on and enjoy the body massage haha.

I don't know what'll be open that night, but best bet is to hit up the arena district(front street at nationwide, vine, and park streets). Bar Louie, Spice, Park Street Patio, to name a few that are across the street from one another. Other chill spots near there can be found in the Short North(high street north of goodale) Good news also is that all these places are a cheap taxi ride to BoMA in case ya need it.
PM me if ya need extra details, as I am also planning on attending, and may end up with an extra VIP ticket.
