i had to fill in for this guy that couldn't do a small graduation party at a golf course country club.

so anyways playing some light house and jazz similar to migs and farina is too fast for people. so this guy gave me some really elevator music crap jazz classical music to listen to. and they din't even dance. when i pumped up the music. i don'tknow

there has to be some good back ground music. chillout is too slow and makes people sleepy when thye are eating. and migs style music is too fast and thumpy they say.

what do u guys play? when people are just getting in and sitting down getting settled and eating???? club djs need not apply

heck I would have brought some jazz funk...they don't dance who cares. My buddy used to play that type of crowds and he would blend in some poppy song then some 4-5 edits of songs that we know.

ppl dont dance @ a golf course.

i might be wrong. tta is right, wrong crowd, try a diff one.

well this crowd was half 18 and over and half oldie geezers.

i did play her requested tunes she wanted like 50 cent, ludacris, petey pablo and other similar tunes. hip hop crap.

but i guess sometimes playing something hippie house is too fast for the crowd for background music. playing chill is too slow and depressing for them.

any cds out there that is good starting music. background music with something. something that makes people tap their feet and that doesn't thump too hard

My first, and last mobile dj gig was at a highschool... in front of 2000 teenie boppers. i was shitting my pants. never will i do that again. cause i ran out of music in the first hour or so for a 3 hour gig.

haahahaha... shoot yourself, now! no seriously though, i know what you are going through... when i first started DJing at college i had to walk the line of what the fratboys/sorostitutes wanted to hear, and what i wanted to play. eventually i said screw it and stopped taking gigs that i knew would put me in situations like that. all they wanted to hear was hip-hop, pretty drab. funny how the women will dance to almost anything but the big drunk fratboy meatheads won't get out on the floor unless there is some promise of them getting to bump and grind like a sweaty ritualistic gorilla mating session. HA! anyways I would suggest that if you don't like what you are expected to play, get out of the gigs.

this said, i know its hard to find spots and you gotta take what you can get sometimes for the experience. i would suggest for more upbeat jazzy stuff, check out:

Kruder & Dorfmeister - excellent jazzy/electronic stuff
Fila Brazila - similar to above
Groove Armada - Slower Funky Breakbeat / Big Beats
Lo-Fidelity All Stars - Funky breakbeats / Big Beats
Ulrich Schnauss - Superb upbeat chillout

...check out stuff with more of a slow breakbeat feel to it it seems as though they don't like the 4/4 dance music beat... we all know it sounds too "thumpy" when you can't turn it up to a proper level and feel that bass drum kick!
