Free VSTi's for Mac OSX?

I checked the tutorial and FAQ pages at the top, and though they definitely provided links to a few nice pieces of free software, the overwhelming majority of what I'm finding is PC only and I'm working with a Mac.

Basically I'm looking for any decent Synth, Bass, and/or percussive sequencers.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers,

Rob

The only other thing I'm really looking for at this point is a good way to sequence one off drum shots into more complex percussive melodies.

I'm totally new to producing, so most of my work has just been done by looping samples in Ableton, but I know there has to be a better way.

Suggestions? (Preferably free )

I'm using Live as my sequencer.

Aside of my drumloops, a sequence my drums mainly in Impulse, Live's own drum oriented sample player.

You can also toss one shot samples to Session view, to launch them when ever you want or if you are ready to do stuff in arrangement view, set a precice place in arrangement. You can also drag and drop the sample in exact place in arrangement view.

I strongly suggest you to go thru the built-in tutorials in Live and read the manual, it's so great. After finishing them look at the videos you can find from the internet (youtube should find some tutorials aswell).

Good luck with Ableton Live. It's a great program and well suitable for doing the next big hit.

Sampler.

Can't think of any good free ones - most of us probably use Battery or Kontakt.

If you're looking for VST plugins then it ought not to matter whether you're on PC or Mac - VST is VST.

Ableton comes with a basic sampler. Or is that what you're using now?

I think that's it, Impulse, right?

I don't really care for it - I think I had been using Redrum in Reason (on a m8's computer) before, because I was able to set up a series of beats (4, 8, 16, 32, 64), sequence single shots, hit record, and I'd get my drum loop. I guess I'm just looking for something along those lines...

Yeah, Redrum's a useful little drum module. I can't think of any VSTs that work the same way. You can still make loops with Impulse but it's not as quick.

Bummer.

Looks like I'll try to track down Komtakt or Battery and try to teach myself those.

Out of curiosity, do you know if there's a solid tutorial for creating loops in Impulse?

That's what I thought as well.... shouldn't any VST work?

Like I said, I'm brand new to this - So I'm likely more clueless than the majority would expect.
