The Best Needles

So, I bought a pair of Trackmaster II last week and I have to say they suck. I went out and bought a set of the brand new SHURE WHITELABELS and I have to say the best needles money can buy has to be these. At $109.00 each includes tool kit and it has a wieght adjustment on the stylus. Superior sound. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE NEEDLES. They are fairly very new to the DJ world.

Does any body else use these?
If not what do you use / recommend?

I have these needles, but since they are my first, I have nothing to compare them too. I am very happy with the sound quality, look and performance of the needle though! They are quite expensive though!

I've only used several Ortofon's, Numarks, and Stantons and would have to say that the M44-7's are the best, as they rarely skip and use quite little tracking force. At least for me. Haven't tried the Whitelabels yet but the M44-7's have been around for many many years. True dat.

I saw these come out at the beginning of the year, they look very very nice and supposedly have the best sound performance around.

I wouldn't mind a pair but that will set me back 200!

Believe me dude, you WON'T need to buy any other cartridge as long as you DJ. WhiteLabels are THE BEST on the Market. They make ortofon nightclubs or Pro DJ S perform like a Yugo where as WhiteLabels perform like a BMW. I had Ortofon Pro DJ S Concordes and I wont' even keep them as my back ups, anyone wanna buy 'em? When I put my whitelabels on, I almost had to take the counter weight off the tone arm, very impressive, then I took them to a club where I spun, and then I confirmed to myself that I bought the best cartridges out there period. Incidently, so was the blub owner, he got rid off, light and record skipping ortofon nightclubs and purchased two pairs of Shure White Labels. Any1 wants a pair at a good price, email me and I'll tell you where to get them. [email protected]. Cheers!

Its not that they suck its just , well ok they suck, shitty sound, and major skipping. Dont use them and sell them on ebay. Then got out and buy the best out there Shure Whitelabel

If you use a deck with a old needle, can it damage your records?
I'm just starting to collect vinyls, and I have an old sony turtable (like early 90s). I'm hoping it won't damage my records if I play them on that until I can get a better table/needle. How often should you change the needle/??

Thanks,
David

p.s. Also how many times can U typically spin a record before it gets "worn out?"

I also was wondering this... seeing that the needles that I have require that I set the counter-weight to almost the max to avoid skippage. Anyone have any ideas?

This is exactly one of the reasons why Shure White Labels are the best on the market, you have to do complete opposite with them, unscrew counter weight almost completely off that is. Needle won't skip and record wear is virtually non existent.

Keeping counter weight almost all the way forward will definately have a record wear, thus I won't even keep my Ortofon Pro DJ S concordes as back ups, they are simply POS compare to Shure White Labels.

are you saying loosining the screw and not tightening it? Just leaveing it loose?

this info couldve been more helfull to me LAST WEEK when i purchased my carts

Question from a newbie DJ:

Most TTs have pre-mounted cart/needles already. I'm using the pre-mounted ones ATM but considering buying the White Lables. My question is

1)Does changing the cart/needles really help alot to record wear?

I know that changing to good cart/needle can make your sound came out better but I personally don't have a "bomb" sound system.........it's just some regular speakers. But

2)Does the sound still stands out even if you don't have a nice sound system? (compare to pre-mounted carts)

My pre-moundted cart/needles are brand new...............but if White Lables can really help on the record wear/sound then I'll definitely change it

Yes to both questions, even if your speakers and amp are not upto par, the right needle can make the sound much richer, clearer, sharper which all equal to a much better sound, and the record wear with shure whitelabels is almost non existent.

I love the Ortofon Concorde much, looks nice, sounds nice...

Anyone know how much wear a Shure Whitelabel would produce on a record compared to an Ortofon Nightclub with an eliptical tip?

About to buy new carts and the shure's sound rather promising

First why an elliptical tip? Those are for recording, not for playing out. Second, with any Ortofon Concorde style needle, you'll HAVE TO push the counterweight on the tonearm pretty much all the way forward in order for the needle to get a grip on the record, and sometimes all the way forward isn't enough. Thus you create a lot of record wear, but you won't be able to tell for quite a while unless you play the same record over and over. With Shure WhiteLabels, the counterweight is almost all the way back so there isn't any extra pressure on the needle to make contact with the record, because of the head forward design, the needle doesn't actually make a full on contact with the record, as other needles have to, it sort of glides on top, and man can they hold a record without any skips, wow. So with a bare minimal contact with the record and counterweight being almost all the way back, the record wear is pretty much NON EXISTENT. And lets not forget about how much BETTER whitelabels sound than Ortofons. I've even sold my Ortofon Concorde Pro DJ S(blues). wouldn't even use them as my back ups. If for some unimaginable reason the styli breaks on me on my whitelabels, the replacement ones are 40% cheaper then styli for Ortofons. Another huge plus....

Seems I'll have to review my opinion about them concordes... I read some reviews about those shures, they're indeed better...

Posted by prestige on May-07-2003 02:21:

definitely the white lables yo, from what i've read, they make the ortofon's look like trash. Shure just blew ortofon completely away
