- Paul Oakenfold
- Seb Fontaine
- DJ Jean

Question

Why do you think some DJ's will lose populairity? I mean.. People change.. Music changes.. Music changes with the people.. Music changes BY the DJ's.. If the DJ's will play different sound which the people love, the crowd goes along, and that DJ will be very populair off course.. But I think some DJ's will go 'with the flow' -> with what is populair -> Some will bend.. And ofcourse, some will not.. Some will just keep on playing their 'own' songs, and there will still be people how love his/her music..
I think you can't be sure that, for instance Paul Oakenfold, will lose populairity, cause he plays his 'own' sets, in his way, and maybe his way will become populair again, and then everybody thinks that Paul Oakenfold r0x again... DJ Jean also has his own kind of playing.. I don't really think you can 'guess' who is losing popularity because he is losing it right now, or because the new style of trance isn't his kind.. Maybe his kind of music will become the newest style.. You will never know...

Cool

Good point Teal'k, but i think there are gonna be some that lose (or already have lost) the plot. Sorry Swamper, but i dont think that seb fontaine will lose it, i think he's one of the ones playing live from gatecrasher new years (with jules and timo) and he's one of THE most asked for dj's in the UK at the moment. ppl that i think will drop from the top:

DJ Jean (agreed!)

Danny Rampling (if only because i shoot the annoying funki house bastard)

Paul van Dyk (until about july/august when he releases a new album which with any luck will be at least some better than his last one. Uncle Paul was one of the ppl who hooked me on trance, i was sooo disappointed with the last album )

Posted by pattp on Dec-31-2000 11:10:

Yah

I think Ferry Corsten will ROCK theee world. Eventhough Tiesto is Suppose to conquer the UK Ferry will will stay as an MOS dude and SHITKICK towards the endd of 2001

Tiesto is my Fav DJ. I am really impressed with Corsten(the live sets) I have heard in the last 6 months.

Posted by agi on Dec-31-2000 11:51:

Personally i hope i never have to hear a Darude track ever again !!!

Posted by FeNiX-PrOjEcT on Dec-31-2000 14:47:

Well i think the top producer will be Vincent de Moor , Seb Fontaine , and Ferry Corsten , thats whut i think , because Vincent he is better producer than making music !!!!!!

Red face

I was really disappointed when I heard DJ Jean and Dave Seaman live... so their hyper-rep was vaporized in no time. Personally I don't like Timo Maas' style either but I guess he is more like a producer than a DJ(?).

On my card Ferry Corsten, Tiesto and Beam & Yanou are rocking but then again, that's just a matter of taste. I also dig those hard house producers like Lisa Pin-up, Fergie, Paul Kershaw, Mauro Picotto etc.

PLUR, have a great new year's eve! Signing off to parteeeeeee!

I think the klubbheads will lose something. Allways the same bass, melody's etc. Also jean & jurgen.

I'm listing those DJs based upon what I heard from them this year...

As for Seb Fontaine... I saw him live and he sucked.. I talked with an NYC DJ I know and he played 90% of the same tracks as a month earlier in NYC because we compared notes..his set was the same boring crap.. I like some of the stuff he's done but it just seems to me he's getting lazy.

Thumbs up

Hmm, I can't imagine PVD losing popularity, even if his new cd blows (I don't even particularely like his singles) he's still a good enough DJ to keep people interested.

And all I'm hoping for is that Tiesto quits the scene or something so I never have to hear about him again

Posted by Teal'k on Jan-01-2001 16:23:

I think this is becoming: 'whats ur favorite dj next year' -topic... everybody has its own style.. dj's who don't play ur style, simply suck.. so the (must) lose popularity..

Happy newyear..

With regard to music styles changing, have a look at Madonna, she's been around for ages, consistenty re-inventing herself. She's arguably as popular now, as any other time in her history.

Dont forget Armin Van Buuren one of the three trance gods (Tiesto,Ferry)

Posted by Sandman on Jan-01-2001 18:55:

Cool

I think that Dj Jurgen will lose some popularity.

I've seen Dj jurgen at a party of the company I work.. last november.
And he sucks man... Sorry for the Dj Jurgen fans. But I have heard and seen better.
He will lose popularity for sure, in my view then.

Tiesto, well he rules (and keeps on ...)

Red face

I think Mauro Picotto is gonna conquer the trance/hardhouse world in a big way. Hes gonna be the man in 2001. I think DJs like Mark van Dale and DJ Jean are gonna lose a lotta popularity

Posted by Robert on Jan-01-2001 20:47:

Big in 2001

I think we'll hear a lot more from rank 1, marco v and armin van buuren. hopefully a lot less from dj jean and dj jurgen.

Question

Why do you all like Tiesto so much? I haven't seen him live, but so far I'm not that impressed about his sets or productions. I remember someone wrote here that people like him because he smiles and dances through the party, but that can't be the whole answer.

Antti

Posted by Pointy on Jan-02-2001 01:36:

i hope dj jurgen and dj jean will go down, plus they're only in it for the money and both of em only play the club hits instead of trying something new!! tiesto, ferry and armin wont because they truly are the trance gods, and the world needs trance =)

Posted by Dj Furee on Jan-02-2001 05:07:

I think that anyone who's been doing the samething for too long.. Time won't stand still for the same old trance, I dun mean changing what comes naturally but looking for other uniqueness that comes from within (get ready for more aliases!!).. sorry I sound soooooo cheesy.. I say Judge Jules will lose popularity and from the production side I'll say some of our favourite dutch producers (and don't think I don't love them!!) unless they start doing something different,I dun mean start doing whatever that's currently gaining more popularity, but hey you never know I used to know dj zinc for his kick ass drum n bass and jungle, and then he plops 138 trek which is a cool track but that I'd never expect him to produce.. also I think Sander Kleinenberg, James Holden, and more canadians and americans and more women will become more popular..

Anyways, lets hope that 2001 will fill our ears with even better tunez and set new standards!!

latez... (btw I think I'm still hungover from nye so if I dun make sense, I'm sorry)

Posted by Kurve on Jan-02-2001 12:08:

hmmmm

I think the Top Dutch Trance Djs will have there year as usual Ferry will probably come out this year on the Top with many nwe tunes and Rmx...like 99.... i though 2000 was a less then stellar year for Ferry didnt like many of his 2000 stuff....but from what i heard of his new songs and the rmx of Kathy's Song...they sound SWEET!! and i think his whole year will come out strong as in 99.. And with Tiesto he used to be one of my all time favs...but lately he has been going more on the progressive rout of trance... many of his own productions and rmx are more progressive then in the past.... heard the tune Sarah Mclachlan " or however you spell her last name" - Sweet Surrender.....but the Tiesto mix of it is so shitty!! i was disapointed..cuz i think the tune itself has very much potential of being better then Silence..cuz the lyrics are much deeper!!!...i just hope Above&Beyond, transa, airscape will rmx the tune....airscape version of silence was the best!!!but anyway Ferry Corsten and Armin will have there Awsome years like usuall....Tiesto i think wont have such a good year then 2000 but still good ...and my prediction i think Above & Beyond will make some sweet RMXs and more and More harder beats will be in... like Dj scot project... just a prediction!!!
Regards,
TranceCluber

I don't want to keep goin on about this but does no one else think Darude sucks and must go away next year ?

Posted by Jukx on Jan-02-2001 14:25:

I think you're all right about Jean and Jurgen losing popularity. Here in Holland they already lost their popularity! They are just too commercial and too "clubby" for the real trance-lovers. I also agree with people who say Tiesto is gonna loose popularity. I dunno how he's gonna do in the UK and in the US but he has had his best time over here in Holland! Man, you all had to see how small the hall was where they dumped Tiesto to perform at Innercity! It was almost embaressing! His set sucked btw, he played far too progressive!
I think (and hope) Marco V. will gain a lot of popularity!! He has worked a long time now to create his own (hard) style and it's time for him to harvest!! Marco V. rulez!

Happy Newyear!!
