What should i Buy a Mini Disk or MP3 player?

Im going away in june for a few weeks in the sun, i want to take my trance tracks with me. ive been looking at prices and i think for a 128mb MP3 Player i think there around 100 which can hold prob 30 tracks right ? I like mp3 players are there small and compact and not heavy esp the Sony MuVo, but Mini Disk players are quite small but more expensive, im confused on what to buy. Am i correct in saying that i can plug my mini disk recorder intwo my pc speakers and record a set ? or do you need to use a proper sound system ?

Get a cd mp3 player, Cheaper than a plain mp3 player (plus can hold more than just a measely 30 tracks). Battery life on mine is 8 hours or so plus has anti skip (doesn't skip at all). I still have about 6 hours of PvD on a rewritable cd...it's great. If I ever want to listen to something else I just burn a new cd with mp3's on it. (plus it can play regular cd's and IS upgradable in terms of if new hardware or file types come out other than mp3 so it can play those as well. Plus it won't crash or die because it is a "mini hard drive" as everything's on cd.

mp3 player iPod

i have 10gig iPod, besides having to charge it often, its alright.

Posted by fuct4less on Jun-08-2003 23:51:

^^ ipods are nice, my dad got one. you can hold tons of songs on em, asign songs to play lists, and adjust equallizer settings. if you cant afford one of those then buy a mp3 cd player

a great mp3 cd player is iriver's slim-x 350 or 450......check on amazon.com

i've never understood why tranceheads who like listening to 2-3 hr sets woud wanna buy a measly 20mb mp3 player...and pay $250

it all depends on what you intent to use it for...

if its strictly for listening to mp3s, and if you're always going to be able to load new stuff on it, then go for the mp3 player

if you want to record live sets, are going on long trips often and want to be able to burn different discs so you can listen to more than just whats in your player at the moment, go for the MD

i'd stay away from mp3 cd players, just cuz of their size, but thats me...

Posted by Rostros on Jun-09-2003 07:46:

cheers guys i might have a look on ebay later.

Posted by JohnSmith on Jun-09-2003 14:48:

it depends. If you want something you can move with, say, go for a jog, then an mp3cd player will not do, nor will a HD based mp3 player. a MD will be pretty good in this respect, i took mine snowboarding and it never skipped once..

if you will just be sitting on the beach drinking beer, then get an mp3cd player, or a nomad jukebox.

also, you might want to check out this thread.

I've got an MP3 player I never use because it can't hold shit. I sold my MD player (was cool until the MP3 players came out), and now I have an mp3/cd player, which I prefer over everything, I can burn 200 songs on it, it's small and portable and lasts a long ass time on only 2 AA batteries. That's what I would reccomend, but if you've got the cash, go for an iPod, that's the next thing I'm probably going to get. But right now I have my portable mp3/cd player and my mp3/cd player in my car.

i wanna know if u burn a cd with a 300 mb mp3, 125mb mp3 and 270 mb file on 1 cd, will the cd/mp3 play it? im new to mp3/cd players thats why im asking this. whats the limit it can play? i was at futureshop yesterday and i looked at one and it said it has 128mb. thats pretty shitty imo. thats like having 12 mp3s with an average size of 10 mb

Here's my opinion:

I prefer MDs... Most of them have a mic-in line. which can be very useful..
I use it to record live set at clubs or even into class when I feel like sleeping.
if you have a line-in on it... you can plug it directly to you're pc or even your mixer and mix and record up to 5h of set !! (LP4 mode)
Battery life is way better or MD than on a mp3 player.
just take a look at the sony models that let you have up to 56h of non stop listening.
You can edit your tracks on the MD... like changing its playlist order
or split or attach tracks. (depends on the model)
Unlimited use of your discs... you can save and deleted the stuff on it as many times as you want.
And one important thing... It just doesn'T skip ! I have a Sharp and its not even on the anti-skip mode... I run, jump(not too high ), with it and it doesn'T skip !
what more do you want ? MD is the shit !

Posted by Trance-Aqua on Jun-16-2003 01:24:

id say go for MD, i have one, and i love the fact how you can record enething u want, tv music, mixers, pc, tape player, list goes on, it never skips, long life battery, can edit order in which songs are in, can replace one by one, i just love it fulstop

Posted by Super Smooth on Jun-16-2003 02:17:

I would just buy an MP3 player. You dont have to worry about discs and the players can hold A LOT OF STUFF!
40 gigs!!
Plus now they have USB2 and firewire links so it doesnt take that long for file transfers

Read This! my problem

my issues are these...

i need to be able to store a bunch of livesets.

the ability to 'seek' within the set fast, ie: fast forward should be like 5 seconds to fast forward one minute.

mic-in for recording lectures in class

good battery life

* loud strong volume. -- MD problem => often find MD's never really go loud and tease you with the volume, almost going where u need it to...

these are my main issues.. I thought 'Mp3 CD' because its cheap and the medium can record like 7 nice sets on a cd which is great. but i dont like listening to sets too many times so i would have lots of 'coasters' so perhaps MP3 ipod? but how does it rank up in the above catagories?

hmmm

anyone a PROFESSIONAL here that can answer these questions? I have the money to throw down for the BEST most satisfying system for my needs, I just want to be happy with the product!

anyone got recommendations??

If you really want an iPod, I'd wait just a little bit longer. The next generation is not far off, and supposedly will do a lot better with battery life - my major gripe with iPods. So what if you have 20 gigs of mp3's if the battery dies on you and you don't have a recharger? It's a proprietary battery.

MD is cool. I have a player/recorder and like it a lot. The crystal clear recording is definitely a bonus. But the mp3 transfer is a pain in the ass because of Sony's copy protection and file transfer software.

Solid state mp3 players are nice because they're indestructible, but some of them can't even hold a single DJ set.

mp3/cd players are nice because they have super-long battery life, and you can get several sets on a cd. But they're the biggest of the bunch.

The point of all this is that one player probably isn't going to satisfy everyone. I have all of the above, and I use them all, because no one's come up with a way to carry mp3's that gives you all of the benefits of the different kinds of players combined.

mini disc player= more baggage to carry
mp3 player= happiness

um the MuVo is from Creative not Sony
id go for a mp3 player, creative rhomba though, it holds 256 mb, looks sexier and the price isnt that much higher.
