King In loving memory... I present to you, Israel!

Since all I see on these forums is the usual negativity against Israel, from the overwhelmingly anti-Israel crowds that frequent these boards, I have decided to post a partial list of Israel's facts and achievements in memory of those innocent Israelis who have fallen this past week to Palestinian terror.

Those who have been identified are:
Sgt. Tamar Ben-Eliahu, 20, from Moshav Faran
Alexander Kazaris, 77, from Jerusalem
Roi Eliraz, 22, from Mevassaret
Tsipora Pesakovitch from Tsur Hadassah
Rene Malka Sultana, 67, from Jerusalem
Allen Cohen, 47, from Jerusalem
Elsa Cohen, 70, from Jerusalem
Yaffa Mualem, 65, from Jerusalem
Zvi Cohen, 39, from Kiryat Menahem
Eugenia Berman, 50, from Jerusalem
Tita Martin Tita, 75, from Jerusalem
Yaniv Ubaid, 22, from Herzliya
Bat-El Ohana, 21, from Kiryat Ata
Anna Orgal, 55, from Jerusalem
* May G-D rest their souls *

With thanks to Richard Epstein...

Israel, the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the
Worlds population can make claim to the following:

Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world.

Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people - as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.

In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of Start-up companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of start-up companies than any other country in the world, except the US (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).

Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the US.

Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.

Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East. The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK.

With an aerial arsenal of over 250 F-16s, Israel has the largest fleet of the aircraft outside of the US.

Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate
Neighbours combined.

Twenty-four percent of Israel's workforce holds university degrees -
ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland - and 12 percent hold advanced degrees.

Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.

In 1984 and 1991, Israel airlifted a total of 22,000 Ethiopian Jews at risk in Ethiopia to safety in Israel.

When Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became the world's second elected female leader in modern times.

When the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed in 1998, Israeli
rescue teams were on the scene within a day - and saved three victims
from the rubble.

Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship - and the highest rate among women and among people over 55 - in the world.

Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing
nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious
freedom, and economic opportunity.

Israel was the first nation in the world to adopt the Kimberly process, an international standard that certifies diamonds as "conflict free."

According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry's most impenetrable flight security. U.S. officials now look to Israel for advice on how to handle airborne security threats.

Israel's Maccabi basketball team won the European championships in
2001.

Israeli tennis player Anna Smashnova is the 15th ranked female player
in the world.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was produced by Haim Saban, an Israeli
whose family fled persecution in Egypt.

In 1991, during the Gulf War, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra played a concert wearing gas masks as scud missiles fired by Saddam Hussein fell on Tel Aviv.

Israel has the world's second highest per capita of new books.

Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century
with a net gain in its number of trees.

Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.

Israel has two official languages: Hebrew and Arabic.

Medicine Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized,
no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.

An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment. Every year in U.S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes.

Israel's Givun imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, the camera helps doctors diagnose cancer and digestive disorders.

Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the
heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with congestive heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.

Technology
With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and start-ups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world (apart from the Silicon Valley).

agriculturalists developed a revolutionary drip irrigation system to
minimize the amount of water used to grow crops.

capita.

Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in
the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U.S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions. Israel places first in this category as well.

An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale
solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in
southern California's Mojave desert.

The first PC anti-virus software was developed in Israel in 1979

----

It's no wonder why they want the land now... from the desert, Israelis have made the lands flurish. A country only 55 years old has much to be proud of. It's unfortunate anti-semitism, and a general disguest for Jew's and Israel's, blinds people of what is truly "good" in this world.

I don't know if you can claim this as an achievement

Posted by AnotherWay83 on Jun-12-2003 20:47:

well i dont have anything against israel or the palestinians, but i think we need to put things in perspective

israel has only 0.001% of the world's population, but is still the country that receives the most financial aid from the US. on average this costs the US tax payer $23,240 per yr!

also:

The United States provides direct and indirect military aid to Israel totalling more than it gives to all the countries of sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean put together, whose combined total population is 1,054,000,000.

x----x

do u think israel would have been able to accomplish all it has without the help from the US? granted, it has indeed made alot of progress in just 50 or so yrs. of existence as a state, all im saying is that you must take into account US aid to it as well

PS: i did get those stats from www.palestinemonitor.org, so it mite be a bit biased, (i doubt it, tho)

Posted by fuct4less on Jun-12-2003 21:26:

melech, do you ever post anything else other than shit about the holy land?
and dont be so harsh on the palestine supporters, because controversy is a good thing. i myself support israel, but i dont get all butthurt when someone comments on israel's methods to achive peace. so stop trying to make everybody believe that israel is the good and palestine is the bad. because neither side is acually trying to achive peace without taking out their revenge on the "opposing side" first. so why doesnt someone stand up and say "theyre both bad", or "they could do better". instead of saying "fuck israel/palestine!"

both countries have assholes that resort to violence. However, both countries have their pains and personal grudges. Both have their major religion that have proved to be bullshit and useless in solving this problem.

just my opinion

Good for you mike.. you deserve a candy.

Unfortunately, the reality is that Israel's lack of respect for human life has masked these great achievements (which have been mostly developed with the help of the US).

And what about Hamas? Considering that they even kill themselves in their attacks tells me that they don't respect human life. They don't have respect for their own lives.

LoL maybe they were asleep in terrorism 101 when they discussed how to plant bombs. But seriously ... who needs to go to the trouble of planting bombs when there are plenty of teenage boys and girls who will sacrifice themselves? Has there been a suicide bomber over the age of 30? How cowardly to send the young and the naive off to die.

I know lots of them that migrated out but said they are going back, and that its the safest place ( but I find that the contrary, the dangerous place ) but they still say its safe... mmmm anyways, thats nice for the Israelis.

Hamas does not govern and represent all three million palestinians that reside in the mid east.. where the Israeli govt does represent all its Israeli citizens. And rememeber, this thread is with respect to Israel.

They do however have the support of most palestinians which prevents Abbas from controlling them. Back on topic now ... yes Israel has many achievements. Done and done.

Much less than what is given to Israel.

http://www.hdip.org/Fact%20sheets/us_aid_to_israel.htm

Posted by melech_mike on Jun-13-2003 22:49:

It astounds me how people can compare aid going to Israel with aid going to "other" nations. Israel has been allied with the United States for a long time and will continue to be. Take that into consideration when thinking about how the US distributes its $$$!

If a good 'friend' of mine asked to borrow (or have) a large sum of money, I would hesitate less to give it to him rather than to a fairly new 'associate' of mine. It's just the way the world works... the US doesn't owe anyone shit!

Listed below are the actual voting records of various Arabic/Islamic States which are recorded in both the US State Department and United Nations' records:

Kuwait votes against the United States 67% of the time.
Qatar votes against the United States 67% of the time.
Morocco votes against the United States 70% of the time.
United Arab Emirates votes against the U. S. 70% of the time.
Jordan votes against the United States 71% of the time.
Tunisia votes against the United States 71% of the time.
Saudi Arabia votes against the United States 73% of the time.
Yemen votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Algeria votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Oman votes against the United States 74% of the time.
Sudan votes against the United States 75% of the time.
Pakistan votes against the United States 75% of the time.
Libya votes against the United States 76% of the time.
Egypt votes against the United States 79% of the time.
Lebanon votes against the United States 80% of the time.
India votes against the United States 81% of the time.
Syria votes against the United States 84% of the time.
Mauritania votes against the United States 87% of the time.

ISRAEL VOTES WITH THE UNITED STATES 94% OF THE TIME!!!!!

Do you see what I see here???

US Foreign Aid to those that hate the US:

Egypt, for example, after voting 79% of the time against the United States, still receives $2 billion annually in US Foreign Aid.

Jordan votes 71% against the United States and receives $192,814,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Pakistan votes 75% against the United States receives $6,721,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

India votes 81% against the United States receives $143,699,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

In the past couple of years The Taliban terrorized the people of Afghanistan and gave safe haven to Osama Bin Laden, they received $143,000,000 in US Foreign Aid.

Sudan voted 75% against the United States and received $1,121,000 in US Foreign Aid. (The US State Department stated that the Sudanese government is guilty of providing a safe haven for a variety of terrorist groups including Osama bin Laden's organization, The Egyptian Jihad, The Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hamas. The Islamic government has also conducted a literal reign of terror against the Christians living in the southern part of the country.)

The Palestinian Authority will receive $500 million dollars in US Foreign Aid over the next five years!!! This happened due to the Oslo" Agreement" of 1993, The Palestinians were seen on ABC News openly celebrating and dancing in the streets at the news of both suicide bombings on Sept. 11th.

Israel, it must be noted, receives three billion in US Foreign Aid.
However, as I noted above, for the last 5 years it has an average record of voting with the United States 94% of the time.

There is clearly no incentive for most countries to support the United States, as they will receive US Foreign Aid regardless of their stances.

Perhaps it is time for the United States to deny things such as money, scientific, technological, medical expertise, and education to nations who simply will not assist or protect American interests?

Worse yet, your Federal dollars go to and support all of the anti-American groups trying to destroy the "American way of life". Ya gotta love it!

Posted by Cyrus King on Jun-14-2003 07:31:

Do you not see a pattern little one

Many nations seem to hate the only two nations which support each other in their oppressive behaviours.

Banned... for what?!?

My use of the word 'asshole' is as justified as you may feel yours was.

I know it's always a sad and depressing day in your part of the world with 250+ days of rain and gloom, but over on this side of the Atlantic we're enjoying the sun with smiles on our faces. Don't get me started with you today!

I'll be leaving for Israel in 14 days. My group has a meet with Wolf Blitzer (of CNN) on the 3rd of July. That should be exciting!~
