Only in Texas

http://www.statesman.com/metrostate...aa01720035.html

I mean come on murderers get less time, do monkeys get put to sleep for committing such a grevious act?

Posted by fuct4less on Aug-13-2003 09:27:

last time i checked, throwing feces wasnt a crime.

Posted by occrider on Aug-13-2003 13:56:

Yes it would be considered a crime. If you threw your shit at someone on the street you would probably be charged with aggravated assault. At any rate this guy's a moron for throwing shit in a texas (it has that 3 strikes rule doesn't it?) and then choosing to take a texas jury haha.

Posted by dj adagnitio on Aug-13-2003 15:06:

Thats absolutelly ridiculous. People who commit murder rarelly get sentences that long. The idea of the sentence reflecting the crime seems completelly out the window in the states at this point. This reminds me of a case where an 18 year old sold an ounce of pot and got 20 years in jail for it. It was his first offence. You think that a country would realize it has a problem when a fifth of its people are in Jail.

Posted by prolikewhoa on Aug-13-2003 18:43:

did you read all the other shit he'd been convicted of? i'm sure that was taken into consideration at his trial.

i'm not defending 50 years for throwing shit though. messing with texas cops is a dirty business (no pun intended hehe )

but based on this guys past convictions, i wouldn't want him out on the streets.

That's the motivation for that sentence more than anything I think.

you must not go many places...

david, you and i both know, texas is just a hot, festering slime-pit. texas is the void that consumes all life. and people throw feces at eachother.

Texas is great if you like a place where the only sex education they teach in school is celebacy (thank you Mr. Bush) and where they have a bill on the table to cut the school week to 4 days because they've spent all there money on prisons. But really whats more important locking away drug users or educating your youth?

There's a whole lotta bible-beltin' Christians in dere

Uh huh

False. It's also quite silly to blame Mr. Bush for all the world's wrongs.

You're going to have to prove that one. I've spoken to several people who are educators in Texas, and they know of no such bill. No offense, but we back up our assertions/accusations here in this forum with facts. Perhaps you are mixing it up with another school system...

In fact, the Senate is not even in session right now because the democrats left to New Mexico ROFL. They are fighting the republicans' attempts (under pressure from Washington repubs) to re-draw congressional districts in order to gain more seats in the US House. Willy Nelson has sent them enough liquor though, so they'll be ok. It's still not quite as much of a circus as California, but still...

Oddly enough, I know many in Austin who "escaped" (as they say) from California. The housing prices are through the roof there. They also say the people are very "fake," "crazy," "stuck up," etc. But that's just a crude generalization (not unlike the ones I'm quoting in this post). I'm sure not everyone is like that. I'd much rather live in Austin than LA, but the Bay Area and San Diego are great. I visit San Diego quite a bit, as I have family there...

I'm thinking of moving somewhere on the East Coast or maybe the Northwest. I think Seattle/Vancouver would be great, or San Diego.

Izzy, what is there to do in College Station? I mean really? Hehe.

I dare you to say that to the CEO of TXU (texas utilities) - he'd laugh straight in your face.

dude, this is like the best place on earth, the fourth largest student body, and biggest campus in the US.... 55,000 students (with blinn college) out of a city of 135,000 in the middle of no-where texas - it's like one gigantic non-stop party. seriously this place rox, i've been to t.u. (sssssss) many times, my brother goes there, and i still prefer it here. we even have a bar here which was written in the guiness book of world record for having the most alcohol served per sq ft. (two years ago it got passed by a place in germany)

you should come visit... i'm DJ'ing at a small bar here on northgate every saturday.

No actually it is very reflective. Afterall people who murder in Texas do get shorter sentances, but its only because it takes quicker to carry out their death sentance...
